HIGH WIND WARNING

Never thought we’d have tornado warnings 10 days before Christmas.
South metro still doesn’t have safe ice, and at this rate I won’t be ice fishing until the new year.

Fishing aside, the last time my area had a forecast like this was back in 2010, and power lines were down left and right. Stay safe everyone

On the bright side, the extended forecast doesn’t look like anything above freezing, some single-digit lows and no precip for the next 10 days.

My in-laws live in Nebraska and posted some video’s of this storm, pretty crazy wind/rain but short lived. Blew over the grain auger on the farm.

Fished Superior today….the calm before the storm toast

Had three buddies with for the ride. Two of them are seasoned Captains on the lake, the third a seasoned fisherman of the lake.

Pretty slow, but got a few fish. It’s crazy to imagine how much the lake will turn in the coming hours.

We had some small 1-2′ swells leftover from yesterday with small waves on top. Tomorrow at this time will be the polar opposite from a completely different direction.

Didn’t see another boat all day. Kinda spooky whenever I’m on the lake like that, not gonna lie.

You really take notice to a wave that seems bigger than the last hundred or the wind picking up just a few miles an hour.

B-Man are ships still coming and going?

The shipping season is still going strong, but every ship on the lake was in safe harbor today or getting close. No ships were out in the open water.

When we were packing up there was a handful of them on the other end of the lake making way around Whitefish Point and through Whitefish Bay (where the Fizt was trying to get to)

No doubt the technology today saves lives on the Great Lakes.

North metro here and hardly any wind just rain, lightning and thunder, according to my phone radar we’re almost done with it all…just heard there were a few small tornados in southeastern MN though…

Lasted about 5-10 minutes in Rochester. Lights flickered a few times but never went out. Enough wind to blow my dumpsters over in my lawn and made a mess

A little lightning, a lot of rain, and no wind at all here in SSP. We’ll see what it’s like after the front runs through and we get the wrap around from the north west.

Of all the things the weatherman forecasts, I think they struggle the most with wind speeds.

All day long they said there would be 60 mph winds ahead of the line of thunderstorms. That didn’t happen, we literally didn’t have a puff of wind. So that part of the forecast was wildly inaccurate.

But I agree with you on tomorrow. After the cold front rolls through it will probably blow hard all day.

    From the Superior Angling Co:
34 foot waves are expected Thursday on Lake Superior. Let’s take a moment to put that into perspective. Hurricane Sandy, the largest Atlantic hurricane on record, produced maximum wave heights of 13m in the open oceans, which is equivalent to 42 feet. These waves are forecasted to be just 8 feet smaller than the LARGEST Atlantic hurricane on record, and this is on a Lake, with no hurricane present. We have been watching NOAA wave heights for many, many years and have never seen a 34 foot wave in the forecast. May the good Lord watch over any mariner who has to be on the water these next few days. Stay safe.

Wind, rain, lightening and thunder in Chippewa Falls, but nothing too terrible yet? Heading to JR”s on Upper Red in the morning and hopefully they won’t get the 4″-8″ of snow they’re expecting!

Listening to the police scanner here in Rochester there sounds like a lot of trees and powerlines down as well as a good handful of lightning strikes and fires. At one point they were controlling 8 separate tactical channels/scenes, which is very rare here.

There was a good burst of wind ahead of the storm, was it 60mph, I couldn’t say. However my 200lb patio table moved across the deck during it, I’ve never had that happen.

    Any wind reports?

75 to 80 mph reported down here towards Iowa City.! Interesting tho, that the DSM airport on the South side only showed 60+/- mph.

Laying here in bed listening to the howl. The “eye” just went over my area. Was watching out my bedroom window about an hour ago and saw the gutter and downspout on my West side blow off my house and into my back yard. Heard something banging into my house just before that and thought it was branches from a tree in that area, but I’m guessing it was tore off on one side and hanging and the wind was just whipping into the house over and over. Not looking forward to going out and surveying the damage in the morning.

At least 4-5 trees down immediately surrounding the house.

I’m thinking the rain we got plus all the melting snow made for some soft ground that made uprooting trees a lot easier.

Just waking to assess my damage. Have 8 or so sections of my cedar fence that blew down. Snapped the posts at the ground. A quick glance around the property that seems to be my only issue so far.

As daylight comes it’s 16 degree’s with a trace of snow. Wind is blowing through the tree tops but can’t tell what the speed is, phone says WNW at 22 mph. Looks like everything missed us. Now the colder temps roll in.
