High Water

I’ve never trout fished in NE Iowa, but have been planning on 3 days of fishing Sept.6-9th for a month now.
Lots of rain recently, with rivers edging up to flow out over their banks. I imagine heavy rain significantly affects
the trout streams and clouds them up with run off. Anyone ever try or experience what affect this has on your success?
    Thanks in advance.

BTW-my first post here and looking forward to learning what NE Iowa has to offer.

    Jeff:

It depends on the stream in question… I have been on streams where a bit of color is actually a really good thing!!! Bankful, not so much… Keep this in mind, the smaller streams that feed the bigger streams will clear first. Also those larger streams become really good for larger fish when the color is right as they don’t have to be concerned about predators.

I was always a spinner fisherman, so I could up size a bit too…

Excellent! Exactly what I was looking for! Using spinner’s in the smaller streams may be the way to go.

Thank you so much, I was worried no one would be watching, since this forum hasn’t been added to you in quite a while

    Thanks again
