High speed transducer for 93sv uhd

I just bought a new boat an alumacraft competitor and put a 93sv uhd on the counsel and was wondering for those of you who have them do you need a high speed transducer as well to be able to read depth on plane? My old boat has a humminbird mega ducer on the back and I had issues with water spraying in the back of the boat from it and had to move it up and add the high speed to get depth while on plane.

I think that’s almost always going to vary by boat and transducer placement. (and probably other factors)

All you can do is experiment with placement and ultimately add the skimmer for high speed if you’re not satisfied.

I don’t have a UHD, but I do have a 93SV+ with an older GT-52 transducer. I have no issue with depth on-plane at 40 mph. Spray is definitely an issue. My old Humminbird ducer had a rubber plug that helped. On my Garmin I taped over the gap between the transom and the ducer. Not perfect, but at least the spray isn’t hammering the outboard.

It’s hit or miss depending on your hull style and placement. I don’t like the spray so I have mine a bit high and lose it at about 20mph, but I get a more consistent reading at low speeds. It’s a compromise for sure. I’m confident enough in my mapping to get me close and then get off plane to fine tune.

Thanks for the replies. I called garmin today and asked about it also. They don’t have a separate high speed ducer that would Y in like humminbird does but he did say it may be coming down the road. As far as the spray goes they have a guard that goes over the ducer to keep it contained.

Hey great info. I just ordered a 93 with the GT56 ducer. I have a humminbird to fun the lakemaster maps, but just couldn’t part with the extra $400 for the helix 9. I am excited to test the Garmin out.

Ditto here on no problems with the GT-52 ducer on plane. As for the spray issue, I took a skinny but fairly rigid sheet of plastic and cut it in a rectangular shape just a bit wider and a bit longer than the transducer, and used 3 stainless steel screws and fastened it to the top of the transducer plastic mounting plate; no more spray.
