I’ll be down there later this afternoon to check out the conditions of the ramp itself. There should be considerable melt, but what’s left could be really heavy and icy.
Just left Hidden Falls ramp. 18 inches of heavy, wet snow on the ramp. Not sure if there is ice under the snow. Park maintenance removed the plow piles at the top of the ramp. A big snowblower could clear it. Looks like the ice shelf is about a foot thick and the edge is in about a foot of water.
Thanks Mark. Hmm, I’m not sure if my snowblower qualifies as “big” but I will probably haul it down there and give it a shot once this rain passes. I guess that makes maybe Friday or Saturday.
The ice shelf doesn’t sound like much of a problem at least.
Somebody has cleared a decent path all the way to the bottom. A good amount of ice on the ramp underneath there still. And with all of the melting, the water level has come up over the sheet ice on the shore. Might make for a tricky launch for some boats. Good luck and be safe out there everyone!
If you guys could see one thing changed at the ramp early in the season here what would it be?
I think it’s about as good as it gets for clearing from the city. Only so much they can do don’t ya think?
The only thing I’d change is to have the gates open much earlier so we could’ve cleared the snow sooner. But I’d agree overall. If city guys cleared that with a shovel I know for a fact they don’t get paid enough.
