I hope they made a lot of those one man flipover shelters. They are going to go fast. Nice lineup. What is the difference between this years thermal tec material and last years XT1200?

This Otter Hideout is going to be awesome !!!
The new Otter Thermal-tec skin Wil eliminate the condensation because of no weld spots and no sewn seams to leak warm air out to the cold.

The cool out rigger arms have built in trays which looks to me like it’s going to make it roomier than other houses in its size class..

Im looking foward to ploppin my butt down in the Hideout and pulling some fish thru the ice !!

I too will be spending some serious time hiding out in a hideout this season, I really like the extra room your going to get with the sled design! Can’t wait to see one in person!

While the addition of Hideout and the Hubs have been long awaited by many Otter fans, there are some great refinements to the old products.

The XT Pro Shelters have been updated with the new ThermalTec skin but with an added rear access door which will make it easier getting to equipment. And the traditional Black tub has now been replaced with a slick new Gray tub.

All in all, it’s great new lineup for Otter this season. I can’t wait to fish out of the new shelters and hubs!

I’m not sure if I like the wing design. It appears the poles will not be tight to the sled, therefore, they may be subject to damage while transporting.

First thing that stands out to me is that spreader bar. What’s up with that?

The hubs are really interesting to me, but I’m a little concerned they are the Eskimo rebranded. I have to think Otter did more here…

Dave sums it up nicely. There’s no weld or sew lines that extend through from inside to out. Think of this as a layering system with the full thermal inner layer locking in heat, and in combination with an outer layer that has minimal seam/stitch lines, the two help to eliminate condensation. Basically the best of both worlds. All the benefits of a thermal shack, without the tradeoffs of frost and light transfer.

Specifically in response to your question regarding the XT1200, those sew lines already let in very little light, but the layering approach is certainly an updgrade.

    eelpoutguy,

I have not… I will get my first chance next month…the pains of living 6 hours south of Maple Lake Mn.

I have been on the phone and shared hours of time discussing the new line up with Joel Nelson, almost to the point I know what to expect… But untill I get to kick it around, set up and tear down several times in my yard I really still can not comment on it’s size, shape and durability…

But with Otters commitment to quality i feel pretty good about the Hub Houses and the rest of the line up !!

    Dave,

    I like this quote:

    [/quote]

Now try driving by the factory twice a day for 5 days and wondering about the cool products that are in there. Is there any way I could hide in a duffle bag to get in or do you need somebody to take some notes for you. cool
I guess I will just have to wait for the thorne brothers expo September 26th.

Yes, I’ve seen this one firsthand. What questions can I answer for you?

    Thanks,

    Joel,
I wanted to know the footprint size and for some reason I was thinking 5 sides. Then I read the specs and saw 6 sides. “duh”
I’m going to snap it out on the garage floor today and see how all my gear will fit into it.

    Resort Hub –
Ok, I layed it out on my garage floor. 80″ from wall to wall. 92″ corner to corner with 46″ walls (276″ perimeter)

It should work for 2 of us.

My question is when they state “6 to 8 persons” what are they referring to?

Is Otter planning on anything like the Clam Bigfoot XL6000 TC?

eelpoutguy, you’re going to need to double some of those dimensions.

For the Resort, the wall lengths are 80″ each (6 sides at 80″ each) and the wall(hub) to wall(hub) dimension is 129″. You will end up with 115 sq. ft. of area and a perimeter of 480″.

    (6-8 Person)

    Setup: 129″ W (Hub-to-Hub)
    Height: 81.5″
    Bottom: 80″ x 80″ x 80″
    Collapsed: 76.77″ L x 12″ W x 12″ H
    Weight: 52 Lbs
    Number of Sides: 6

If you compare the Otter Resort to similar hubs from Clam and Eskimo, it boast a generous 115 sf. This is the largest and lightest full thermal hub in it’s class. No doubt this will be a great hub to fish out of with a large group.
