Was coming in from walleye fishing last night on the Croix and just south of 94 we thought we saw a dead head in front of us. I went around it and noticed it had fins. We circled back and it was a big cat fish belly up. It was still alive and really big. So I figured I would try and get a picture of it and wanted to see how long it was too. My buddy tried reaching out to grab it but couldn’t quite reach it. I grabbed my walleye net to try and pull it closer to the boat. It was just enough to trigger it to make a dive and it swam under the boat and disappeared. I’m guessing it might not have made it but it was a big one. I would say it was between 40 and 50 inches long and I would be surprised if it wasn’t easily over 30 lbs. Wish I could have taken a better picture of it.

Yes they do die…dang it. Steve lost out on a good battle there!

In thinking about it, I bet you couldn’t see in it’s mouth. I’m guessing it was trying to eat a 12 pound walleye and it got stuck. )
