Took my girlfriend out, she’s been ice fishing with me for a few years now and she’s getting pretty good. Today we were chasing crappies. Most crappies we catch in this particular lake are 11″+. Low and behold, she pulled a 29″ walleye in. I couldn’t believe it! It was 29″ long, 16″ girth, and it weighed 9.03 pounds! We were both pretty excited as you can hear in the video! It was her first walleye she ever caught. She doesn’t usually have the patience to find/fish them! We were fishing up by Detroit Lakes

That was awesome! That is a heckuva way to start catching walleyes. Tough to beat that one.

It was exciting for both of us! She worked that fish for 3 minutes. I thought it was a couple of crappies! She worked it up 4 feet before her rod almost doubled over when it bit! I just bought her that inline reel with a light tip for panfish. She wanted a setup just like mine, I put 5lb line on it so she could use it walleye fishing too when I go, I’m just glad it didn’t come off or break the line!

I know multiple people who have fished walleyes hard their whole life without a fish like that. Very exciting for the young lady.

First walleye? Talk about expectations and pressure for you going forward.

    Congrats!
