So I have a strikemaster mag 2000. My recoil is fine but everytime I pull it, it gets hard to pull bc of the flywheel. Do you know what’s causing the flywheel hard to pull ?

Does it sound like the flywheel is rubbing on something? Any dents in the recoil housing?

Do you push the compression release in??

No dents that I know off. But it seems like it’s having a hard time turn. I turn it halfway then it gets hard to turn but it does turn.

Does not having enough fuel affect it ?

    What’s the compression release?

I’ll bet this is your problem. I’ll see if I can find a pic. On my MagExpress it’s a little yellow button that you can push in. Needs to be in to run. If not it’s very hard to pull the cord and won’t start.

I’ll check my auger when I’m home. That’s a possible cause. This is my very first auger so everything about it is still new to me.

Second the Compression button. Yellow and near the choke. Tidbit which may help…pull it twice without depress the compression button then push that baby in, pull the cord and it should start right up. At least that seem to save a couple pulls on mine as it was a cold starting SOB.

Keep in mind that the recoil uses plastic or composite gears….
Not using the compression release can damage them….Once you find the right starting quirks (mine is 2 pulls switch off with full throttle, then full choke, switch on,1/2 throttle) it fires up 8 out of 10 times…

Does the strikemaster mag 2000 even have it ? I checked it the other time didn’t seem to have any yellow push by the spark plug.

Certain augers if you don’t store it correctly oil can migrate and lock it up. Mine did that over the summer, drained all of it, took out the spark and drain that way as well. Wanted to just barely pull it over slowly in the basement to see if it was fixed and fired up instantly, whoa was the wife pissed when the cloud of smoke migrated upstairs. chased

No compression thing on it. Must be old I’m guessing.

Does it start and run….or is it just hard to pull??

It did start and run, but I can’t get the flywheel to spin so I can get a smooth pull.

Do you ever have to start via recoil a lawn mower, weed wacker, or chain saw? They all have times during the pull when it gets harder due to compression, this is normal. Is this what you’re feeling or is it a constant hard pull?

Put up a picture….That would make it somewhat easier to tell the year etc.

I’ll post a picture tonight. Everytime I pull the string and the teeth of the recoil bites onto the gear on the flywheel, it’s hard to turn it. It’s possible but not smooth enough to get the auger running.
