    Hey guys (and ladies?)

I am moving up to a 36v trolling motor from my 24v. Can I just add a battery in the proper series and that will do it? Do I need to upgrade anything at the plug or wiring? I am not sure how it makes the jump from 12v to 24v right now from looking at how it came prewired, must be hidden underneath??? Any tips appreciated. Pics attached.

    Abe,
Can you post pictures of the socket and your plug? It looks like you have a 4-wire system, which normally has the 24V jumper in the plug.

    Abe,
If your rig was sitting in my garage, I’d be able to help, but I just can’t find any solid data on the placement of the series-jumper in the plug. Your plug & socket is made by M-G Electronics, just not a lot of info out there.

The good news is, Larson appears to offer a 36V TM setup for your hull, so your dealer should be able to get the wiring schematic and configure it for you.

Thankfully, most 36V motors pull less amperage that the 24V you are replacing, so wire-size wise, you should be fine. It’s just that they use a 4-wire setup, to provide both 12V & 24V at the socket, for those who need it.
