Its been awhile since Ive been in the walleye/bass game. Ive been concentrating solely on salmon on L Michigan for a few years. I had a recent house fire and lost everything, including my boats. Im in the market for a multi-species boat and have decided on a wx 2190.
The problem Im having is I dont know what the latest and greatest accessories are. Im looking for a 2017 or’18, and have a few contenders. I need help with trolling motors, graphs… anything else??

Do I need to stick with Humminbird if I want to link Minn Kota to graphs? If you were me, how would you set up a slightly used 2190??

I really like my solix 12s linked to my terrova. That being being said, if I did it again. I would of bought an older helix 12 dedicated just to maping with my trolling motor. Then added a garmim panoptix.

Rigging is both daunting and fun!

If I had a clean slate to rig, this would be my order of priority:

MinnKota Ulterra w/iPilot: self-deploy is incredibly nice, automatic driving means less time steering, more time fishing

Humminbird AutoChart/Lowrance Live sonar mapping: it’s often surprising just how much additional detail this adds

Trim Tabs: makes a good ride great

MinnKota iPilot Link (with Humminbird): follow the contour means you don’t have to record the path beforehand, saves time for fishing

PowrTran Python and iTroll: remote wireless kicker steering and a programmed throttle control means you can walk around the boat to tend lines, etc. and still make quick steering adjustments

15hp kicker: more power is always better

Sorry to hear about the fire and losing everything.
I think I would have to agree with David. Terrova with i-polit link to a hummingbird unit with auto chart live for mapping and boat control. Garmin Panoptix for graph. There are plenty of other accessories that one can add to their boat but this would be the most important to me.

Great choice! I went through the same process in looking to upsize from my current rig – picking up my WX2190 later this month.

Every 2190 I looked at in the model years 2015-2018 had the F300 Yamaha with stainless prop and the F9.9 Yamaha kicker. All of them had 36V trolling motors, most had the 72″ shaft. All of them had 4 batteries in the cockpit floor. All of them had tandem trailers, some had the matching fiberglass wheel wells. I will mention that two of the boats I looked at had cracks in the fiberglass wheel wells – one was being replaced under warranty.

Now for the options that you’ll see and need to decide about:
    – steps on the trailer front to board the boat (a must for me!) – can be added if not on the rig for about $375.
    – Most of these come with 3 regular chairs plus a pro seat (butt seat). You can get additional chairs with pedestal to match the other chairs from Skeeter. Looking at $600-$800.
    – Everything I looked at had a full windshield, but I have seen some listed with double bubbles. About $1200-$1400 to get a full windshield and have it installed.
    – “Storm Shield” snaps in under the full windshield to fill the hole in the walkway between the cockpit and the front deck. Really nice on cool Spring or Fall mornings! Cooler bag works too. $100.
    – Skeeter ratchet cover is about $1200. Most I looked at had the Skeeter cover, some had custom snap covers.
    – Some 2017’s and all 2018’s have Skeeter built trailers instead of EZ-Loader built trailers. Newer trailers are nicer, but no real problems reported with the EZ-Loader versions either.
    – Some common cockpit upgrades are AM/FM Stereo (everything I looked at had just the bluetooth stereo in it), VHF Radio and antenna.
    – Some have the Oxygenator in the baitwells and livewell.
    – All of them had Fulton winch, Fulton trailer jack, LED trailer lights. I’m pretty sure all of them had surge brakes on BOTH axles (a good thing!)
    – Some had a power jackplate – that is about a $1800 add from the factory.
    – Nothing I looked at had trim tabs, but they are popular. About $1500 installed at the dealer.
    – Trollmaster or iTroll for the kicker – not sure how much these are installed.
    – Wavepro or SmoothMoves seat bases for the Driver and Passenger seats. About $1200 – $1500 for two.

As far as trolling motors, everything I looked at had a Minnkota Terrova or Minnkota Ulterra with the newer models having the Ulterra. Everything I saw had 36V and I would highly recommend the 72″ shaft. I have seen some listed with MotorGuide on them, but I have no experience with those. All of them have the Skeeter mounting plate that allows the whole motor to slide back a few inches – this is SUPER HELPFUL at launch time (depends on the angle of the launch too) to ensure you’re not hooking your trolling motor on the bow roller on the trailer.

Graphs – most that I looked at had Humminbird and most of those were the Helix models. 2015 and 2016 may not have the G2 with Mega. Plenty of room on the bow for a 9″-12″ graph. Plenty of room on the console for a 12″ plus a smaller graph. Same with Lowrance, Gamin, Raymarine, etc. Pay attention to how they are wired in!! Not all installations are equal and these big graphs can be very sensitive to how they are wired in.

From there you’re really looking at hours on the main motor, condition of the boat and trailer, etc.

Worth noting that the new WX2200 is similar in style/layout/features to the WX2060. There are no jumpseats in the WX2200, but you gain two very large storage areas. For my personal use, I liked the jumpseats much better but opinions vary on that topic.

Good luck with your search and feel free to PM me with any other questions that I may be able to help with.

Thank you. That is all incredibly helpful. How often are you guys using the I link with the Humminbirds? I’ve never seen it used as I’ve had Lowrance units. Would a boat with Lowrance units be a deal breaker for you guys that have used this feature before?
I don’t need to follow strict contour lines on L. Michigan, but I may on other lakes. Looks like I can get into a slightly used 2017,2018 with all the bells and whistles for about what a new from dealer 2017 goes for($67K). Tough call, but right now I’m leaning towards the used models that are all set up. It’s tough to find a color that I like, but I suppose I have to compromise somewhere

While I- link is a nice option for contour fishing, I certainly wouldn’t pass on the “right” used boat. It is virtually impossible to order to spec , a used boat. While many folks look at used boats as a commodity, I suggest that what you are really buying is,

    Who had it & usage.
    Pride of ownership.
    Maintenance documentation.
Full inspection of present condition, and what may need to be done after you buy it.
Will the seller stand behind issues after the sale?

Yep, Dean is correct – all of those are very important before dropping tens of thousands of dollars on a boat.

As far as passing on one with Lowrance – heck no, I wouldn’t do that.

Most of the Skeeter colors are pretty mainstream (maybe not their “bold” series) in the WX models. Unless there is one that is a complete “no-go” color for some reason, I usually don’t put too much stock in the color. They are all pretty and sparkly – color is way down the list for me when buying used.

    Good luck!

Might want to look at the new WX 2200 or WX 2060 just to compare some of the features, storage, latches etc… Are done currently that differ from the WX 2190. I currently run a WX 2060 with hummingbird electronics. I use the contour trolling often! It all depends on personal preference. My next boat will probably have a Garmin along side my Bird as well because of they’re amazing technology. I may have a WX 2200 next but I’m NOT afraid to put my WX 2060 on any body of water!!! Good luck with the purchase ????????

Have you looked at the colors in person? I’ve found the color to look much better in person…
There is no comparison between motorguide And minnkota. Minnkota all the way! Yes, I’ve owned both.
I use the ipilot link every time I fish. Sometimes following the contour, sometimes just going in a straight line. The cruise control is good. I like that all the readouts are also on the remote

I put a deposit on a new 2017 WX 2190!!!! It comes with Helix 12 at dash and Helix 9 at bow all linked to I-Link. I’m going to remove the rear rails and put on a track system. I can’t wait. I’ll post a few pics once I get her

If you go with traxstech. Order your stuff now. I waited months for mine to arrive… good stuff. The downrigger mounts could be better though

I’m not sure what the official color code is, but its a mix of red, black, and white. I may not be deer hunting much this fall now

Took my new wx 2190 for its maiden voyage this past weekend. Man what a beast. 30-40 mph winds on Saturday made for tough fishing, but a great day to see what this boat can do. Im beyond impressed with this boat.
