Helmets and uniforms

I don’t watch all the Gophers football games, but every time I do they have a different helmet on. How many does each player get for a season? I get the home and away uniforms.

Helmets covers are basically skins. They paint or cover with plastic each of the various helmet designs. That said, I hate it. Give me the glossy maroon helmet with the gold M every time.

I hate all the different uniforms.
Half the uniforms are not even in the team colors.

My eyes hurt when I see some of the Oregon uniforms/helmets. Some combinations do make interesting fishing colors though…

Potential controversial take –
I like them. I think it’s a cool idea. But probably costing a public institution more than any of us would like to know…

Oregon started this trend and was a huge recruiting tool for the school. I am a fan of the black uniform and the all white uniform. Koi the freshmen looks like real deal hope we can hold onto him for all three years.

He is and I dont think he would stay 3 at this rate. 2 I would be happy with. Perich has 5 INTs and has only started 4 games but played in 8.

Sell more jerseys and hats. $$$$ Ditto on Koi

Perich was in studio with PA today on kfan and was asked why he chose to stay and he started listing off the recent safeties developed at MN that are in the NFL and he said this is safety U I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else basically.

It’s all about the marketing and merch sales. More uniform variants equals more variations of merchandise for fans/alums.

And Holy Moses do they spend.

Same, I like them for non-traditional powers (like Oregon was). I hate them for ND, Penn State, Alabama, Texas, OU, Ohio State, Michigan etc. I’m pretty sure they are money makers for the Universities though, as the sell more jerseys with each iteration. If it was a losing endeavor, I doubt you’d see it as far and wide.

Well yeah, I’d like to think the same, but we’re talking about a government operation and tax payer money here. When has being a “losing endeavor” EVER mattered.

Football programs are self-funding, at least for the large universities that play the multiple uniform game. Other sports, not so much.
