Helix ice unit – need input

Putting the final touches on the helix 8 ice unit.

1 – I want to use the custom arm IDO’s @sandys shop class engineered so now I’m looking to craft a transducer holder. Ducer is 2 1/16” across. I’m sure I’ll need to get out the Dremel and cut something in half. There is ample area on the base and includes a drain hole. Any Ideas?

2 – the marcum brute battery came with its own quick tach dongle. I’d like to eliminate Vexilar’s alligator clips and soldier in the matching dongle mate. Finding an brick and mortar electronic store is no longer an easy task. Radio shack’s about gone for this area.

    Like always, appreciate IDO’s advise.

I got that dongle at our local Coles hardware store and did exactly what you want to do.

Are you talking about an SAE connector?

Any auto parts and most hardware stores will have them.

SAE connector, yes that’s it. Thanks, Bman!

I used a 2.25″ pvc cap for a transducer cup.

I assume the Vexilar clips are for a charger. FYI, I believe you need a charger specific for li-ion batteries, rather than the typical sealed lead batteries.

Blank – appreciate the pvc cap idea.

I’ve added a Vexilar glow ring. Would like to use Marcum Brute to hook direct to glow plug. Eliminate wire storage issues.

    Looks amazing!

Matt – is your class still manufacturing these? Might be worth putting up how to order one. Just an idea… Kurt

Word of caution with the cap, the ducer will freeze to it if there is any water in the cap.

    Ahh, that makes sense.

    Kirt,
I wish nothing more than to have had the class this fall. But with Covid 19 and the shutting down of most in-class learning, we could not offer it. We plan on running it again in the fall if stuff settles down.
