Helix Ice Fishing with side imaging transducer

So just any idea but I can’t be the first to try using an open water side imaging transducer when ice fishing? With guys using Mega 360 and Panoptics through the ice to locate fish I’m thinking attach the side imaging transducer on a pole, drop it down below the ice and slowly rotate to see what is around. Any thoughts on if this would or wouldn’t work?

Pretty sure you need to be moving for that to work. Not sure spinning it in a hole qualfies? I’ve considered it myself but just the mega DI.

It should produce an image similar to what it does when you are spot locked and you can see fish swim thru the beam the transducer puts out.

I’m doing the same with a Raymarine Axiom. The head I believe would have to rotate on the same mast. I will be testing mine at the end of the month.

This is my mast so far. The Axion head attaches to the ram ball. I’ve yet to fab a transducer mount. The arms straddle the hole and the center pole rotates while arms are stationary on the ice. The transducer cable runs up the inside of the pole.

So it’s been a year… but I’m thinking about trying this since it’s impossible to find a Helix ice transducer right now. How did it work for you? Any advice?
