Anyone ever broke a pivot arm in two?

I originally didn’t put the extra screw in it to keep it from pivoting up. But, every time I would get up to speed then stop, it had flipped up out of its bracket. So, per the instructions, I installed the extra screw to prevent that. First time on the water after installing the screw, the pressure from the water forced it up anyway and snapped the pivot arm in two at the 90° angle. My boat isn’t a speed demon (only mid 50s) and it was at the perfect elevation to the hull per the instructions. I even ran a string line along the bottom of the boat to get that perfect elevation.

This ever happen to anyone else?

It looks low to me. You want the bottom on the transducer to be about 1/3″ below the transom (on the left side of the ducer); this would actually make the bottom almost flush with the transom on the right side (because transom angles up).

Ducer needs to “SKIM” the water when WOT.

I’d also agree with Arctic in that the bracket looks to be for the 2D transducer and not for the larger SI one.

Looks to be a older transducer from the early side image units to me.

It is the Helix 7 SI DI G3N. It is the ducer and bracket that came with the unit. I purchased it last summer. I only had it on the water a couple times last year and that is when it kept flipping up. This year I put the extra screw in it (per the instructions) and it snapped first time on the water.

Trust me it is EXACTLY the correct elevation per the instructions. The seam on the ducer is PERFECTLY in line with the bottom of the boat. I even ran a string line to get it PERFECT.

I’ll have to enquire if maybe the wrong bracket was included. I don’t think so, however, it matches the pics in the instructions…but who knows.

I have had it happen also. I would suggest raising it up a 1/4″. Hopefully your slots are long enough.

You might want to take a look at this…

SBB-5 to attach a Transom Style Xducer to boat stern (back/transom)

It is a spring back mount..

I don’t think I have an option but to raise it. It’s just frustrating when you follow manufacturer’s directions to the T and it fails. I just wonder how my readings are going to be with it up higher? There has to be a reason they direct you to set it where they do.

I would call Humminbird since you were using the correct mount and followed the instructions. I would think they will have a solution for you.

Or if you just want it fixed get a metal mount bracket.

The metal mount brackets seem like they are more robust. But everything has is failure point. I have the metal brackets and they with stand the conditions you are describing.

I did talk to them yesterday. They are sending me another pivot arm, which is something. Although it is out of stock for at least a month. Other than that they were not much help. They didn’t give any other solutions or options. Kind of disappoint.
