I want to buy a Helix 9. As a walleye first kinda guy, would I get more use out of Side Imaging or Down Imaging?
I was dead set on DI only….. Now I’m not so sure.
    What do you think?

SI has its advantages for sure. Once you understand what you are seeing on the screen, it can really aid in finding contours that you previously did not know existed or help you decide where to direct your next cast…Lots of setups I’ve seen and used have a DI on the bow and SI+GPS at the console. Having a large screen on a DI unit is less important than a large screen on a SI unit. When your SI is set at 50′ in both directions, things tend to get cramped on a SI unit.

It comes down to whether you are willing to put the time in to figure it out and understand it. You will most certainly benefit from it once you know how to identify structure vs fish on a SI unit. There was an episode of 39 hours where Aaron Wiebe uses his SI to identify a place to fish by dropping pins on fishy spots and then going back to those spots to fish. I utilized that tactic and it has paid off for me.

save more $$ and get the Helix 10, it has the larger screen and much better screen resolution + you get the HDSI transducer (would cost you $100 to upgrade anyways)

the extra $400 is worth it for the increased screen sharpness and the 1.1″ larger screen imo… Screen resolution is very important when trying to decipher small structure details on the screen..SI is worth the $$, very cool technology…
