Helix 7 questions

So bought the Helix 7 GPS G2 at the crazy low price and mounted to my genz box. I have a couple of questions regarding this:

    1) I am wanting to get a cover for it. Apparently Cabelas no longer offers their branded cover. Which one would you recommend?

    2) Does anyone have issues fishing breaks with the wide degree ducer angle? It looks like it is adjustable, but looks like the narrowest it goes is 15 degrees.

    3) I am using the Vex battery to power it, but going to build a battery box to power my flip over LED’s, as well as usb charger, etc and wondering if push comes to shove, can I run alligator clips from the battery box to the sonar battery in parallel, will I have any issues? I just want to have a backup option in case the helix drains the battery.

Depending on the depth and slope, there will be a dead zone like all 2d sonar cones.

Certainly you can run them in parallel. It is possible to get some interference depending on the other accessories powered from your parallel battery system. More than likely, good to go.

That’s too bad that they stopped selling those. I’m glad I was able to get one before they stopped, since the price for a HB one is crazy (not sure why it isn’t included). I wonder if the Garmin Striker 7″ cover would work? The units look like similar size/shape.

I’m hopeful the Cabelas Helix 7 covers will come back in stock this fall/winter. Can’t see why they’d 86 them. I’m sure they were popular at that price vs the HB covers.

Looks like you answered your own question there. Where there’s money to be made, why give something away? Lotta people just have to have that logo.

Cabela’s May be waiting to hear HB’s new product announcements before ponying up to produce more at that size?

Considering they just announced the G2N ice package, you would think they would be around for at least another year.

instead of using a hard cover you could always put a vex type bag over it…like the trophy angler bags

no issues with the 23 degree or less cones on drop offs, if so, move two feet lol

7ah battery and helix 7 is going to be a stretch. keep that battery charged and warm for best performance. I was using an 18ah for my helix 5 and frabill recon. I’d use at least a 10ah battery with a helix 7

love the helix 7 chirp for the ice, I didnt think i would be a convert from the marcum flasher, but now that the helix is just as fast, brighter, alot more options with the 2d sonar, map, and flasher screens, summer use.
also with the chirp settings you can adjust it to custom setttings, I had to do so during the brainerd jaycess last year and I was able to get very little interference in deep water
