Helix 7 paired with Marcum Lithium Shuttle

Anyone here tried it? Yay or nay? Easy to mount appropriately? I use my open water helix 7 as a makeshift flasher. Flasher part of it leaves plenty to be desired but it works and I love that its easy to get at the GPS. Works good enough for me to not want to drop $800 for the newest Helix 7 ice.

I need to figure out a better carrying case than the one I have. I also don’t have a soft case for it either. The full Humminbird set up would cost the me more than the Lithium shuttle would, just wouldn’t have all the bells and whistles the lithium shuttle offers. I’d assume that if I could get the Helix 7 properly mounted onto the shuttle the Helix would fit inside the Marcum shuttle soft pack as well?

BassKhang.com has a 3D printed shuttle for the Helix 7 and its fully customizable and even has option to use 20V drill batteries as power source. They start at like $50 for the striped down unit and $109 for one with switches and charging ports.

    tbro16,
    I mounted a Helix 7 on a lithium shuttle. A couple things I found.
You need to buy an adaptor for the power cord from the shuttle to the Helix power cord.
The Helix 7 case will work with the Marcum shuttle, not sure about a Marcum case.
You will need drill holes in your Helix gimble mount to line up with the holes in the shuttle base.

I have been happy with the setup.

I also have that set up. I currently setting one up for my wife but this time I am just buying the Humminbird portable pack. I already bought a lithium battery to go with it. I like shuttle alot, but for me the battery life sucks. I do not think it is any better than a lead acid battery, but it saves a ton of weight. I may have to have Marcum replace the batteries.

A guy I fish with purchased the 3D printed shuttle from here for his flasher and was pleased with the result. Ultimately it just shaved a little weight and added a different look, but it has held up well. From what I’ve seen I would not hesitate to mount a Helix 7 on one.

I’m curious on the long term durability of them. They don’t say what material they use, PLA / PLA+ is the most common. PLA generally won’t degrade if it’s kept submerged in water, but I’ve read mixed things about water exposure combined with UV exposure.

I like the look of them, and the mix and match accessories they have.

I’m debating giving one a shot for my flasher as well. I’m assuming it won’t be as durable as something like a Genz box, but I take care of my gear. Every few ounces I can save for fishing the river where ice is only suitable for walking is great…and the look of them is unique.

I set mine Helix 7 up on a shuttle three seasons ago. Works fine but with all the other options these days I’d probably go a different route. Look at the new Bass Khang shuttle and run off tool batteries if you have those or buy one of the (now) cheaper Amp or Dakota lithium batteries.

It was the cat’s meow 3 years ago but there are better options these days in my opinion.

    They confirmed it’s now PLA+.

Picked up a Marcum Lithium pack today. $129 plus tax at Fargo Scheels. Mounted my Helix 7. Worked well. Had to drill a couple holes in my hummingbird mounting bracket to line up holes on pack. Overall good system. Only downfall is a bit front heavy with that size of unit and no less battery in back. Pic doesn’t do it justice. With the sale it also came with power adapter and USB light. Hard to pass up at that price.

That’s what I love about IDO. Had never heard of Bass Khang and their shuttles. One quick glance at their site and I knew this would be my choice. Bought the fancy version one with the USB port and plug in. Also purchased an amped lithium battery and I’m ready to go! Thanks for the help! I do have three of the 5.0 xc Milwaukee batteries but had no idea how long they’d run my drill + flasher. Figured adding an 18 ah lithium to the mix wouldn’t hurt!

Gonehunting, I don’t blame you buying the lithium at that price. I did check online and the price you got wasn’t available. Nice find!

If you online chat Scheels customer service and tell them about the Fargo store price they’ll match it.

Excellent point. Scheels is always willing to work with you. I would have dug more into it if I hadn’t learned about bass khang.

How do you convert the power cord to connect to the Helix? It appears that the shuttle has a barrel plug that fits the Marcum units.

There is a Marcum power cord adapter you can buy. The Scheels deal came with power adapter and USB plug in light for $129. Not sure if you can get that price now but $149 for sure in Scheels.

Joel – I spliced my power cord to the marcum shuttle with heat shrink tubing. That way I didnt have to buy the adapter and dont have additional cords to get hung up on my transducer cable. See pics for clarification.
