Helix 7 GPS G2N has a mind of it's own

    I just used my new Helix 7 for about the third time today and I had the following intermittent problems
    The Depth kept changing from 11 to 22 to 18 to 11 to 22 feet, etc and I was in 11 feet of water;

    The color palet on the chirp kept changing on it’s own;

    The fish icon would come and go;

    It wouldn’t always mark fish with the audible alarm when the other graph was but it always showed arches and sometimes baitfish;

    I couldn’t get the Lakemaster Plus to work. It kept saying no GPS lock and wouldn’t load. And the default chart was showing me a proper track on the lake but the heading readout on the overlay was showing the same incorrect heading all of the time…

    I rebooted a few times as well as reset to factory default.

    The other two days I used it, it was awesome.
    I think it’s toast……

    How is it hooked up to the battery? Sounds like a voltage or connection issue to me.

    he Depth kept changing from 11 to 22

    This is called a double echo.

    When it happens, you will get either double or triple your exact depth. You can counter by lowering your sensitivity and or setting your chart depth manually to avoid chart jumping.

    The fish icon would come and go;

    Your fish icons have settings for how much of a return receives an icon. I’d suggest turning off this kids icon. You need to learn how to interpret the image, don’t rely on bird to display an icon.

    The color palet on the chirp kept changing on it’s own;

    That is very odd. Never heard of that one. Do share more.

    You’ll find the smaller the unit the worse the gps.
    Can buy a puck to improve your GPS.

    So you had none of these problems the first 2 times you used the unit?

    No problems at all the first times out. It was awesome…
