HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2N or Hummingbird Helix 10 SI GPS

I am trying to decide if I want to purchase a gen 1 Hummingbird Helix 10 SI GPS or the new HELIX 7 CHIRP SI GPS G2N.
Does anyone have an opinion of whether the new technology is worth a 3 inch smaller screen?

    Thanks

The transducer with the G2Ns is new. The SI ducer with the gen1 helix models is the same as the xx98 series. The new G2N SI ducer has the dedicated DI crystal. Not to mention chirp and MEGA imaging!

What I can’t answer is whether the 7″ screen with MEGA will show anymore detail than the 10″ without. I don’t doubt the clarity will be better, but will it be useful on a smaller screen? IDK. The MEGA DI will definitely be better on the G2N simply because of the dedicated element.

Keep in mind, if you currently have HB SI, there will be added expense of a new transducer splitter cable if going to MEGA.

I will be seeing what kind of deal they are willing to swing on a Helix 10 Mega G2N at the sportshow.

The helix 7 g2 lists the same compact si transducer as the g1 and earlier small screen core units. No MEGA here.

I wonder if the g2 helix 7 has an improved GPS? The g1 GPS is horrible.

    I’d get the helix10.

Gander has another sale going; 15% off many things including Hbirds.

I didn’t realize that you couldn’t get a Mega with the helix 7, only 9 and larger.
I think Im going to go with the new helix 9 mega from Gander since they have 15% off. Unfortunately they are back ordered until the end of May!

    I stand corrected.

Wondering if anyone has any additional input, I am trying to make the same decision now, the 7 G2N is around the same price as 10″ G1. I am leaning towards the 10.

For me I will never use SI on a smaller than 10” screen again.

I believe that the “N” in G2N stands for networking. If it isn’t a feature that you need, it is a feature that is raising the cost of the 7″ unit.

I like the helix 10. You can use lake master card with the 10 but the 7 you can’t.

My bad. Your right. For some reason I thought they came with pre loaded maps.

They do, however the GPS models still come with a single SD card slot.

I have both, on two different boats. On my newer boat with the 7 on the bow, I also have a 12 on the dash. On my boat with the 10, I actually have two tens, as I have the room. Having them both, if it were me, and you had the room, I would go with the ten, as it’s a fantastic locator, and there should be some great deals out there.

I am going with the 10. I waited too long though, Amazon had them for prime members for 800 bucks plus tax and that deal came and went. Thanks for the input.
