I’m trying to decide on which 5″ sonar-only unit to add to my dash. I’ll use this as a dedicated sonar unit to free up space on the larger unit for mapping and SI.

All of the numbers listed by Humminbird are identical between these two units: colors, signal power, target separation, they even use the same transducer. The one distinction is the screen orientation direction and the Helix is 800×480 where the 678 is 480×640.

The Helix is $200 and the 678 HD is $360.
What am I missing that would support paying the extra cost for the 678 over the Helix?

I just ordered a helix 5 for a sonar only unit to go alongside my other unit. From what I read you can’t customize your screen views like on the 600 series. That’s the only thing I know of so far.

I actually asked the same question on walleye central a while back and this is an answer I got.

600 has the ability to save your favorite views in shortcut style buttons. I believe the 600 series can also use a quadrabeam ducer for what its worth
