I found a deal on the Helix 5 Sonar G2 PT that I don’t think I can pass up. However this unit does not have CHIRP and I am unsure if it is still worth it. I plan to use this unit for ice fishing, and have only used a flasher prior to this. Will this still work fine without Chirp or am I better off passing?

    From HumminBird website:
CHIRP stands for “Compressed High Intensity Radar Pulse.” That’s a fancy way of saying it can show you fish that other forms of 2D sonar can’t. How’s that? CHIRP scans the water for fish similar to the way the seek function on your truck’s radio scans the airwaves for FM stations. By covering a wide range of frequencies, CHIRP produces more accurate, more detailed returns of fish, structure and the bottom.

Does chirp even work with the ice ducer ? Pretty sure it doesn’t with my Lowrance.

    Couldn’t tell ya, I don’t use Twitter.

Seriously though, the Helix is the best the best piece of ice equipment I have. The GPS, lakemaster chip, 2D Sonar, ability to auto chart and mark spots with the boat in the summer (fish some lakes that aren’t HD on lake master)….it’s a game changer in relation to my standard flasher.
