Depends on a lot of factors. How big of a boat are you putting it on? Will you be using it for ice fishing? Is it a side imaging model and will you use side imaging?

I really liked my Gen 2 SI model while I had it. Great unit for ice fishing and on a small boat or kayak.

    Pros:
Good units with bright screens, reliable sonar, and depending on the model, decent SI.

Portability. You can get an Ice ducer for $80 and have a good ice unit as well.

Cons: The 5 inch screen is a bit small for SI in my opinion, if you’re going to be relying on it. Honestly, the way I fish now, I don’t use SI much anyways, but if you are doing a split map and sonar screen, it could still be a little small.

Base maps included are worthless, you’ll have to spend $100+ for a good mapping card or make your own maps with autochart (if so equipped).

The interface can be a bit cumbersome. Everything is button based and I got annoyed with always hitting buttons to get where I wanted to go, especially if the button beeps were on. I switched to a lowrance HDS unit and love how I can flip to the page I want and modify any settings I want at the touch of a finger.

G1 not as good as g2, g3 for ice fishing features.
