Helix 12 G3N blank screen.

Been having this issue with my new 12″ helix. Sometimes it will work all day, other times it won’t work at all and some days it will start working then after a hour or two go blank, once this happens I’ve been able to restart the unit and it may take 10-15 attempts but if I’m lucky it’ll start working again, usually not for very long. Notice the faint coloring around the edge, this also happens sometimes when the screen does work. I have a networked helix 10 g3n right next to it and that unit has had zero issues. I’ve hooked up the power unit from the 10 to the 12 just to check that when the 12 is wacky and it doesn’t help. I’ve also hooked it up straight to a spare cranking battery and left it on sitting in my garage overnight and the first night it went fuzzy, tried it a second night and it worked all night. (battery was fully charged at start both times) I’m perplexed, Humminbird thinks it’s a voltage issue which it certainly may be but I’m thinking the voltage issue is in the unit and not the power supplying the unit (unit not reading voltage properly) by the way the cranking battery is a interstate size 29 that is brand new this year, charged after each use. I’m out of town for the next few weeks so not much I can do at the moment. Just curious if anyone else has had this issue, I was planning on eventually replacing the cranking battery with a X2 group 31 AGM made from northstar but was hoping to hold off until spring.

    Zach,
I had the exact same problem with a 12″ G2N. I tried everything i could think of and i just gave up and took it back to the dealer i got it from. Before i returned it though i wanted to make sure it wasn’t a power issue i was having on my boat,so i plugged it into their power source and sure enough after 5 min. I turned it off and then back on and it did the exact same thing. All i can say is that the product is defective internally and you should either return it to the dealer or send it back to Humminbird to be replaced. Now im having trouble with my 2D sonar displaying a blank white screen so if anyone knows what to do here then please advise.Power source is good with 12 gauge wire. What really sucks is i like everything humminbird has to offer with their clear view mega si/di its just a little annoying that i have purchased two different units that both have had issues. Thanks and good luck Zach.

Thanks guys, i’ll contact humminbird again and get it sent in. I still plan on going with the X2 AGM battery but like I said would rather wait until next spring to do that..This is my first bird i’ve ran in the boat, have had the ice helix 7 for a couple yrs and love that. I hope this isn’t going to be a continuous problem as I really like the birds for mapping and mega SI/DI is pretty darn nice.
