Love mine, great screen….if MEGA isn’t important to you, the gen1 is about $500 cheaper…

I picked up the gen2 today. I’m really excited. Now I just have learn how to use all the features.

I’m beginning that journey as well. The end goal is to have the iPilot Link set up. Graphs first then motor. In my research I have saw the compatible Humminbirds but know nothing about the differences. I’m guessing a Helix 10 has a 10 inch screen? What else does it have over the Onix or Legacy’s? I get one shot at this purchase. If I get the wrong graph I have to live with it. I would assume they are all GPS, Chartplotter and Fishfinder. But what’s the other magic? Any thoughts?

YOUTUBE! There are tons of videos. I think my 1197 or 998 came with a DVD that walk you through all of the settings. I’m not sure if they still include that or not it has been a few years since i have bought one.

If I were buying right now, i’d probably get a Gen 2 Helix 10 si and never look back (You always want to buy the latest as the next year it’s already outdated technology)…if Touchscreen is important to you, then the Onix (discontinued) and Solix are your only options…

I purchased my gen1 10si unit for $1,200 total, would I now spend $500+ more if I could sell it for the Gen2? hmm, that’s a tough call, but probably not…That $500+ could be put towards another unit for the bow..

Personally I don’t need to see fuzz on a rock (MEGA), I just want to know that the rock is there…

I’ll keep my setup as-is until they move everything to bluetooth/wireless and there’s no need to run ethernet/ducer wires, etc…

Thanks Joe. So the Onix stuff is touch screen and the helix isn’t? I don’t really need touch screen either. Is that about the only difference? I do like the SI stuff though. That looks nice. When you say fuzz on a rock would that be like bait fish or what does the mega do?

mega provides much better detail and resolution, think of it like 1080p TV vs 4k TV, like I said, I don’t need to see the fuzz detail on rocks, I just want to know there are rocks down there…SI/DI are game changers if you’ve never used them before…

There are other differences between Onix/Solix vs Helix, but Helix gen2 narrowed that gap. The biggest differences now are Onix/Solix has shared mapping (only 1 map card needed) touchscreen, more screen customization, faster processor. Are these all worth the extra $1,000 you’ll likely spend, imo no they are not…The Helix line also has the quick cable harness, Onix/Solix still use the stupid fine threaded individual cable connectors…might seem small, but that’s a big deal to me..
