helix 10 shuts off when I start the motor

I replaced my fried HB 959 with a new helix 10 and now when I start the motor (225 vmax) the new helix 10 shuts off. I’m assuming that the new helix 10 takes more juice than the 959 and that’s my issue. I run my 989 and helix 10 off my starter battery, which is a farm and fleet 27 series. I am planning on switching out my starter battery (although I considered running a separate battery for the graphs but I don’t have the room in the back with the other 3 running the 36v ipilot. What size and brand battery do you recommend? My brother runs the same boat with the same exact setup and the dealer that installed our graphs, TM’s, and batteries recommended an odyssey 34m that he paid $299 for…

    share your thoughts please…

question first, how is the power getting to the graphs? Is it a direct line from the batter or sharing some type of fuse/power block that other accessories are using?

Like Pat said, graphs should be direct wired to the battery, don’t use the fuse block of the boat, huge improvement in voltage drop after I did that(don’t forget to put an inline fuse in). I see a 225 vmax minimum battery requirements is 675 MCA and 182 RC so from the get go your 27M farm and fleet battery (which is actually a dual purpose battery per the manufacturer (east penn) and not a deep cycle like FF advertises) is undersized per yamaha’s recommendation. I’m currently running a starting only battery (24m, only a 90hp outboard though) and then a 27 deep cycle (the 29HMDC as FF calls it), but when one of them goes I’ll probably go to a 31 AGM deep cycle to replace both with one battery. I’m on season two with those as my two batteries for my terrova and really like their performance. 200RC and I think 800 or 1000 MCA.

Like said above, direct wire to cranker. I run 2 HB Onix which are juice hogs off the cranker and have no problems after I didn’t go through the tiny wires of the fuse box.
