Helix 10 G2N and Heading Sensor

So this past weekend was the second trip / first fishing trip in our new boat. I gotta say I’m pretty impressed with my rigging job, I’ve only ever rigged an onboard charger, TM and a small fish finder. This time I put 2 fuse panels (Bow and stern), 2 Helix 10 G2N’s, 3 transducers (1 – 2d , 2 – SI) , 36v Ulterra, onboard charger (4 bank), 2 heading sensors (Minnkota and hummingbird), a nema network connected to my 115 SHO and a LMF-400/ with the required backbone parts which was sent to me for just the cost of shipping by a really nice fella on FB!

The only part that did not work was the Hummingbird Heading Sensor, my units are not detecting it. If I understood the instructions it doesn’t need power. It just plugs into the helix ? Any Ideas why my Helix isn’t picking it up?

Are you talking about the MINN KOTA heading sensor, or a HUMMINBIRD GPS receiver puck? They are two completely different things. The Minn Kota heading sensor only connects to a bluetooth capable Minn Kota trolling motor and is solely used for the spot-lock jogging feature. It has nothing to do with a Humminbird Helix sonar. And as far as I’m aware, you shouldn’t need a GPS receiver puck for any Helix units.

    hi blank,

I mentioned the “Hummingbird Heading Sensor” which is the “AS GPS HS – External GPS Heading Sensor”

Of course you don’t need this, the units have an internal gps, but if you want an accurate depiction of which direction your boat is facing at very slow speeds this is a great option.

Just wondering if anybody has had trouble getting there Helix units to detect this device and what the cause was.

Hmm interesting. I don’t have any experience with them so I can’t offer any help. Good luck though!

Is your software 6.570 or higher?

If so, did you follow pg. 16 of the manual?

    Hi dandorn,

I may have set the north setting incorrectly! Thanks! I will check that tonight.
