I have heard several people swear by a battery powered heated vest. My Dad at age 81 spends a lot of time hunting, but gets cold pretty easily and as a result puts on so many layers he can hardly move. I think the heated vest would be a great Christmas gift for him. Any help on brands/models?

I purchased this one below. It works well but only heats on the neck and back. (feels great though) Perfect for me and it’s super cheap.

I’ve heard great things about the Milwaukee vest and it seems better quality. I just bought this one for my Dad for an early Christmas present. It should be here today so he can use it this weekend.

Comparison: So I know a guy who hunted last weekend with the Milwaukee vest while I hunted with the cheap one above. Note: this is very unscientific but here is my short term findings. We were both comfortable but I had my vest on High the whole time while he had his on low. So they both work but I think the Milwaukee one will have the ability to get you warmer.

I’ll be wearing the cheap one and my Dad will be wearing the Milwaukee this weekend. I’ll let you know how they work in the bitter cold temps forecasted. I’ll be in a bow stand with no protection.

Milwaukee vest and jackets are the one’s I have heard good things about and they have been on sale at home depot.

Milwaukee Hoodie, then he can layer over the top of it. By a spare set of battery’s and he will be toasty in there.

I have Dewalt batteries already so I bought this adapter. They sell an adapter like this for the Milwaukee’s too. That way you can use your drill batteries and you don’t have to buy the round 12v ones.

Sticker, I can’t believe more people haven’t replied to this thread.

Well after a very cool weekend in the stand. I can tell you the cheap heated vest I wore was worth every penny! I was warm and cozy and I was able to shave off a few layers. So not only was I warm I wasn’t near as bulky.

I think this will be the best $25 I ever spend.

My Dad wore his early Christmas present (Milwaukee heated vest) and he loved that one too. I still have no idea if the Milwaukee vest is worth the extra $90 or not, but both worked great.

Note: One thing we did notice was the cheaper vest fit my dad and I a bit better because we are rather short. I’m 5’8″ and my dad is a bit shorter. The Milwaukee vest was longer and it hung down past my dads waist which he didn’t care for. There are draw strings at the bottom of the vest so once he tightened them the vest stayed up higher and was much more comfortable.

I would try a vest or hoodie as a base layer. The Milwaukee coat comes up short as a outer layer jacket. Heavy for what it is, wind goes right through it, heated pockets are a great idea but useless when the jacket is worn as a base layer. Even wearing the coat over a simple sweater you loose contact with the heat.

I have been in a climber, dark to dark for the last two weeks, going to get one for sure! This cold weather bowhunting is getting old.
