I used to be impervious to the cold. But as I’ve gotten older and especially over the last 11 months I seem to get cold more easily than I used to. So I was think about looking into one of those heated jackets. Anyone have one or know someone who does who can share some brand suggestions and opinions? I recall hearing about them a few years ago and they seemed kinda expensive so hopefully they’ve come down in price a little. Thanks in advance!

I bought my wife a Milwaukee 3 years ago she loves it. We have not had any issues with at all.

I do NOT own one of these, but I had a construction friend loan me his for deer season last year. It was awesome. I figured if he wore it for outside construction, it should work for me. The thing I really liked about it was I could control the heat. I have to walk about 1 mile back to my stand and it is a tough walk. I get heated up on the walk and then sit so in the past I would not put on all my clothes for the walk in to avoid over heating. Last year I just had on his jacket under my stuff and when I got to the stand, I did not turn on the jacket until I started to cool down and then as the day went on, I could turn it up. I think I will purchase my own this year.

I have the vest not jacket but it’s been great.
As said, you get cold turn it on L-M or H and when you warm up, turn it down or off.
I might even get the jacket too but haven’t tried I on yet to see how bulky it is.
1 complaint would be the placement of the battery, right in your lower left back. Not the best but not sure if there is a good spot for it.

I have the Milwaukee heated jacket and the Axis model heated vest. I bought both of them for fishing Pool 2 in the winter as I hate the big bulky jackets in the boat. I bought the jacket a few year ago and it is ok, has 2 zones, one for the jacket heat and one for heaters in the pockets. I really just don’t care for the jacket a lot as for an outer layer it isn’t the most wind and water proof and it is a bit bulky as a layer under another outer shell. As a jacket for wearing around in the winter it is not bad, just not what I was looking for for days on the river. Last year or the year before I bought the axis model vest and although it only has one zone it is great as a inside layer and the closer you get it to you body the better you notice the heat. Much less bulky than the jacket and if I could only have one for my use it would be the vest. Milwaukee batteries and chargers are easy to get and you can also upgrade to the 18 volt if necessary. As stated above the battery location isn’t great at first but I don’t even notice it anymore.

    My opinion, heated JACKETS suck.
    Heated vests are great!

I wear Milwaukee – been for several years.
Converted my jacket to a vest.
Reasoning, no heating elements in sleeves.
Wearing it under an actual jacket, makes sleeves tight. Tight = cold. Get rid of sleeves!

I use them periodically – turn on – get warm – turn off – get cold – repeat.
Like taking a shower, you get used to the heat, and eventually want to turn the temp up on your shower – this is why you periodically turn on/off.

From what I’ve seen the Milwaukee heated jacket sizes run surprisingly small. I would suggest trying one on before buying to make sure you get the right size. If you do get one new in the box without trying them on, be sure and save your receipt in case it is too small.

I’d say they run true to size.
Pretty sure I’m in an xl, which is typical for me.
My advice is use these near your base layer and have a good coat over them.

I wouldn’t suggest wearing them as an exterior layer, they don’t retain heat well. Buy fitted and wear under a looser jacket. My 2c.

I just went on to Amazon and ordered the cheapest one. I’ve been using it for a few years and I love it.

Maybe just maybe the more expensive $200+ ones are worth the money but I certainly haven’t seen it yet. We bought my dad a a Milwaukee brand vest and his works just as well as mine that I bought for about $30.

Like Fish Blood said definitely get a vest and wear it as your base later. It will be much more effective. The closer you can get the heat to your body the better.

Cool, thanks for the tips everyone! I didn’t even think about a vest versus a jacket, but I’m thinking that might be a good way to go for me. I like to lift weights and therefore my arms aren’t what you’d call “slim”, so avoiding unnecessary bulk is a good idea.

My Milwaukee jacket only heats the back, the newer ones heat the back, chest, and pockets. It uses 12V so they have a cord that will plug into a cigarette lighter

I have the Milwaukee heated hoodie. I chose it over the vest so I can take advantage of the hood when the wind is bad (the hood is not heated, just the back and chest areas). It works very well. I bring three batteries in the boat so I don’t have worry about running out of juice on the coldest days.

Milwaukee would be my choice. I’ve got the jacket and hoodie. Home depot typically has a decent selection in stock to try on. Remember you don’t want heated jackets loose, a snug fit so all the heating pads touch your body is best.

My neighbor has the Milwaukee heated hoodie and loves it. I’m curious how it would work under a hunting jacket. Would it be too warm? Has anyone tried it?

I do a lot of motorcycle riding and I highly recommend a heated vest.

It’s all dependent a number of variables. Your temperature sensitivities, the weight of the jacket, outside temp, wind, etc. I will say with the control button over your heart it is very easy to turn on and off as well as adjust temp to low, medium, and high when needed.

I typically put mine under an ice fishing jacket and start it on medium to get warmed, then adjust to low or off when needed. Very rarely does it ever need to be set on high.

Just got an email that Milwaukee has come out with battery powered medium weight base layer. It claims to be machine washable and dryable.

Joe – What do you use for your battery pack on this one? It says it does not come with a battery pack.

    Thanks!

Any battery pack with a USB power output should work. Looks like you could even plug it into a USB wall charger if you had a USB extension cord.

I do it all the time, you can have 3 levels of adjustment so you can tweak it just right.

Bringing this subject back as it has been a couple years. Any updates on these vests? Last a couple years? Do you need to purchase a certain charger? Any brands better than others?
