What temp do you keep your heated garage in the winters?

Just above freezing unless I’m working on something.

    42. The whole garage becomes a refrigerator! I use 100-150 gallons of propane all winter.

Keep mine at 45 with a water to air heat exchanger off the outdoor wood boiler. If I’m working out there I turn it up to 60ish. Doesn’t take long before I’m down to a tshirt.

44 which is as low as my thermostat seems to go. I’ll warm it up a bit if I’ll be in there working on something though.

Why don’t you guys just insulate your garage? Mine stays between 30-40 depending on the outside temps, unheated..just insulated.

R-30 walls and R-30 blown in ceiling, 12.9 garage door. A heater is needed to keep it above freezing almost all winter.

A non-insulated garage with a heater is one of the riskiest things a homeowner could do…I would imagine no one in this thread is dumb enough to do so…

Really, why does mine (unheated) stay above freezing all winter?

45 here as well, by the time the heater shuts off and fan quits blowing my garage gets to 48.

Even with an insulated garage there is no way mine would stay above freezing in cold and windy ND as my split level house has a completely exposed garage. My parents garage is completely tucked under the house and mostly underground on two of the sides and pretty much always stays above freezing.

I keep mine at 50. 1st time having a heated garage.
    It is insulated.
    Walls R25
    Ceiling R38
    Floor 0
    G. Door R21 I think?

I can get it up to 65 degrees in 10 minutes. I also have a ceiling fan mounted in it.

65 usually but I have been working out of town so 55 now. I have a south facing garage with windows so anytime the sun is out it holds temp without much heat. I have a natural gas high efficiency boiler with floor heat so the gas bill is not to bad.

46 degrees and 54 if I’m working out there.

The only time it goes over 54 is if we have some kind of gathering out there. Anything above 54 and it’s too easy to get too hot working… making it a waste.

Our new build is having x2 ceiling fans in it that will never shut off during heating season. It’s crazy how much less heat is needed when you have good circulation and push air down from the ceiling.

Mine was -10 earlier. blush I don’t heat it. If I do want to do something in the garage, I wait till a nicer day and fire up a nipco heater

Attached garage unheated, detached shop is at 50. When I’m working out there I wear a hoodie and I’m perfectly comfortable. Working on turning green walnut bowls.

Attached garage, with 1 or 2 adjoining walls, or free-standing?
