I’m in the need of getting hearing aides. No idea what to even look for because there are so many options. Anybody have anything good to say about certain manufactures? Would prefer something easliy maintained that doesn’t eat up batteries.

    Thanks!

Well, the first thing is do you want internal or external ones. I need volume and the gentleman at the VA said he thought the internal would do a better job of that, take that for what it’s worth. I ended up with a Starkey and have been quite happy with them. The batteries, size 10, last about 4 days maybe five. I also have a remote with mine which gives me five choice of volume. I think after 4 years I’m ready to go back and have the volumes increased. Good Luck!

I work for Starkey Hearing Technologies in Eden Prairie 800-328-8602. They should be able to help you. I work in their cabinet shop so not sure if they would send you to an outside Audiologist or what. They do have a lot of people come in so I’m sure they can fit you there. Give them a call. Hearing aids are expensive and unfortunately not covered by insurance.

My wife works for ReSound they make the LiNX hearing aids that pair with apple products and androids. They were the first hearing aid company to come out with a smart hearing aid and partner with Apple. Check them out http://www.gnresound.com

If like most of us you are not covered by insurance & paying out of pocket be sure to check out Costco. They will spend a full hour on you doing a hearing evaluation at no charge or obligation. I paid $1900 for a pair with remote that out perform the $3200 pair I replaced. Hearing problems are potentially complex and there are many different situations one can face. Hearing aids help me but are inferior to the good hearing I had in my younger years.

I have had hearing aids for over 15 years (too much playing in a band). The first ones I bought, I just went cheap and I got by. After them breaking down and not working on a regular basis I replaced them this year. I went to an Audible Hearing Center and I was very happy. Any good hearing aid place will do a check of your hearing for free and find out what you need. With the digital hearing aids now, they are smaller and work great. I had my person set me up with different settings for various situations I am in. I even have an outdoor setting that helps cut the wind noise. I did NOT get the remote as I can just push a button on the back of my hearing aid to change settings. Yes, this hearing aids were expensive, but WOW so much better than the previous “cheap” models I had before. I got lucky that my insurance covered part since I had met my deductible this yeas – also planned on my part. Good luck

I researched these things for about a year before I bought. How does a layman know if you need $500 ones or $10,000 ones. After a year of EXTENSIVE research I’ll get to the bottom line-GO TO COSTCO.
