Can anyone recommend a good headlamp they use for ice fishing? I’ve realized that I’ve been doing a lot of night fishing these past few years in the portable. My cheaper headlamps never seem to be up to the task. I don’t mind spending a few bucks on a higher quality one. What are your suggestions? Thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

I highly recommend the LED Lensor H7. Runs on 3AAA’s and has a dimmer lever so you can dim it down in a house. Also has spot-flood adjustment. Amazingly bright and small/light.

    Seriously, Nothing better.
You can get these at the Ice show.
Uses a USB for recharging, 5 settings, It’s what the dog sledders use in the Itiderod.
The brightest setting is absolutely blinding.
I can’t remember what I paid. I’m thinking maybe $75 at the show.
I saw the guy at a gun show a few weeks later and he says they sell out at each show.

I’ve been using a black diamond spot headlamp. Extremely bright, runs off of 3 AAA batteries.

I have a few nicer ones that are getting pretty old and twitchy. Old one has 2 settings of white or red light. When I shopped around I decided that I would like one that has a dimmer instead of settings, and I still want red for different applications – but I haven’t bought yet. Ive had good luck with princeton tec stuff.

Finally someone comes in with some Petzl love! I have a pile of em scattered around everywhere and anywhere I might need one. I think my favorite model is called the Tikka 2. ~$25.

    Love the Tikka headlamps too.

I don’t need a bazillion gagiggawatts of retina-searing power. Most of what I use a headlamp for is seeing something right in front of me. Working on mechanical stuff, fishing, etc.

Love the Petzel Tikka ever since I bought the original. Light, simple, enough to see where you’re going, lasts forever on a set of AAA batteries. So light and comfortable I’ve forgotten I had it on and walked into a grocery store wearing it.

Have all these models been tested in the cold I’m assuming?

I have some great headlamps but once the cold comes around they start acting up. Need a new one.

LED LENSER H7. I use it year round. I’ve had a few buddies try the 7.2 and had some problems. H7 has been bullet proof for me for years.

I use a Duracell headlamp it’s a little bit heavier than the prezl or the others but it runs off AA batteries so you’re not forking our the $9 per battery for the small ones.

I use Coast head lamps 700 lumes I believe and I got them at Home Depot for 19.99. Very good light for the price I use them both night walleye fishing and in the ice shack.

That is one bright light. I think I have to order one also. It would have come in handy last year walking back to my truck on early ice and no moon. A car came around the corner and I saw we were not headed back to the launch but open water spring area. My headlamp was not strong enough to see the shore line.
EDIT: I just placed my order.

I had a black diamond and it was nice and bright and light weight for sure, but it developed this extremely annoying buzzing noise and I got really sick of replacing the batteries. I switched to the led lenser MH10 and it is awesome. This headlamp is able to switch from a super wide beam to a very focused beam. This is really nice for spotting tipups really far away, like at least 100 yards if you put them that far away. It also has a 10 hour battery life on the high setting and is rechargeable off of a phone cord. It is pretty expensive but has a great warranty and is incredibly bright.
