Just came back from URL 1-9, stayed with Beacon Harbor Resort…
Conditions:
We were warned by the “road crews” that if you left the sleeper shack and started drilling holes, be sure to get a long ways away from the shacks/outhouse because the weight of the snow would push water up onto the ice, and then flooding would occur, creating all kinds of trouble…Our neighbors must have misunderstood, cuz they drilled one about 40 yards from the outhouse, and by nightfall, there was water around the outhouse, and started to show up by their shack too…We were also told to not park next to the shack, for the same reason of the potential to cause flooding around the shack…
The ice was 14-16″ thick, 12′ of water…
Fishing: “we were warned that it was tough…”
Our 3 man group didn’t catch a lot of fish…What we did catch were nice…We took 8 fish home, with 19.5″ the biggest walleye. Caught most fish on red Slab Rap, rattle wheels with red hook and fathead minnow only caught “short” walleyes…No real morning or evening bite for us, only had wheels go off twice after 10 pm in the three days we were there…
Good thing for camaraderie in the shack…
As usual, the road crew guys were decent to work with, as were the resort owners.
