Heading up to URL Friday. Doing a sleeper through red lake ice cabins. Any suggestions on a good place to stop and get bait? Last year we weren’t all that impressed with the couple bait shops close to the lake.

If we don’t buy bait before we leave town, we have always had good luck at westwind resort

I got fatheads from a gas station last year. I think it was in Northome. Baits weren’t real cheap but minnow prices didn’t seem too bad and they were generous enough in the amount given. That’s about a half hour south of Waskish.

I always stop at the Mobil by Jerry’s Liquors in Grand Rapids.

Good bait at good prices, gas, diesel, and a liquor store in the same parking lot.

I don’t go crazy on the amount of bait I buy in GR, and prefer to buy from the resort, but I’ve been burned or rationed before just before getting on the ice.

Has anyone went through red lake ice cabins before ? This is our second year going and we went through all line fish house rentals last year.

Timberline in Blackduck is a great spot. I believe the owner, Carl, will be on the IDO show tomorrow. They have the best staff and usually the best bait in the area. I grew up in Blackduck and live in the metro now but still go back to Timberline for all my major fishing/hunting purchases.
