Welcome to IDO Clam/Humminbird Chris… My recommendation would be to give the mud flats a try. You can use your map to find any type of irregularity (inside/outside turn, etc) and drill out a few holes covering from the top edge down to the bottom edge and maybe 1 or 2 extras in both directions then do a bit of hole hopping until you find fish. Generally the fish will be up on the top or along the top edge early and late in the day and on the bottom edge mid-day. Good luck!

Click this link to google maps as a group of guys and I are heading up that way too.

It’ll take you right to our spot.

If you’re looking for a location closer to Mille Lacs that deals in similar newer model imports, but heavily used with high mileage, there is an establishment that deals in such goods located just up the road in Bock… I believe it’s called Fat Jack’s. doah

lol! Me thinks I was too hard on the new guy. Sorry Chris. Listen to Will, if anyone knows Mille Lacs, it’s him.

Will, what are your thoughts on the the rocks on the south east corner? Perhaps heading out of Lybacks?

The rocks can be good all season long JD but the big key is how deep are we talking? If it’s 20′ and shallower the bite window will typically be for 1/2-1 hr right at primetime in the mornings/evenings and then sliding off into deeper water during the day. We’ve got our perm shack set up on a 14′ rock pile on the NE corner of the lake but if you’re fishing that shallow during the day bring a good book or a charger for your phone because it can get pretty slow mid-day. Now if you can find a rock pile that tops out at 25′ or deeper you could do well all day long.

You da man Will. Say, as an aside, do you do any guiding at any time of the year when you are not doing IDO shows?

I fairly often do guided trips for charity auctions and benefits, but other than that I’m just an unpaid guide for friends and family… and I’ve got lots friends and family!

My new Brother! Been a long time man! lol But seriously, you should guide. Put me down for a trip this year. At an average of $400 a day plus all that credibility of being a bonerfied TV star, that oughtta drive the price up by an additional 5 or 10 bucks!

A huge thanks for the kind words JD… I wish there was time to do both, but given how limited a resource free-time becomes once married with kid I’ll pass up a quick $400 for any time I can fishing with my pops and friends. If you’re half as funny in person as you are online it would be a hoot to spend a day on the ice/in a boat with ya, if I’m ever looking for an extra guy to tag along I’ll look you up.
