Heading sensor not working with console unit

I inherited a boat from my father-in-law when he passed away last fall. I’ve been out roughly 20 times since – and I love the boat, but I’ve struggled to make sense of the Humminbird 360 (original, not mega). He never got the hang of it either when he was alive. Well, I just discovered that the heading sensor isn’t working on the console Solix 12, which makes the 360 pretty much worthless on that unit.

There’s a Helix 7 G2N SI on the bow that is directly connected to the AS GPS HS (also on the bow). There’s an Ulterra 80 lb bowmount w/ ipilot link and the 5 port Ethernet switch in the bow cubbie. The 360 transducer is on the transom.

Heading seems to work fine on the Helix but once I spotlock or stop moving, the Solix heading bounces all over the place. This doesn’t really bother me on maps and I had just assumed that the 360 didn’t have the same problem. I discovered I was wrong when I noticed waypoints were showing as the opposite direction of where I knew they should be on the 360 screen.

Once I discovered this and traced the heading sensor cord to the Helix, I thought maybe I just need to keep both units on so they can talk to each other (I seldom use the Helix and often leave it turned off). No dice – it doesn’t appear that they share heading. What do I need to do to get heading to both units so that I can use 360 on either?

    Thanks,
    Joe

When you run the accessory test on the unit does the GPS/Heading Sensor show up as connected?

You need to select the heading sensor as your gps in your solix. As djshannon said check the accessory page under the solix and you will have to tell it to use the heading sensor. FYI it will probably default to the solix gps when it is turned off and back on. Good Luck!

Here’s the Helix – this one looks good. Internal gps had been selected, I just switched to external.

    Solix on the other hand…

Looks like the only GPS available for the Solix are internal and trolling motor. Are we sure that a Solix can pick up an antenna from a Helix or do I need to wire it directly? Is it possible to wire one antenna to 2 separate units?

If not, do I need to add a 2nd antenna on the transom? I suppose a bonus to that would be that I’d get more accurate waypoints from Solix side imaging and 360.

My 859 ci sees my external antenna. I have to wait a couple of minutes but it shows up. Don’t have a solix might have to call humminbird.
