    30+ cans of Hamm’s
A dozen cans of assorted flavors of Spam and I’m excited and nervous to get underway.

Thursday a friend (22 years old) and myself will be loosening the mooring lines and turning the old Carver downstream to the destination of Muscatine IA. We’ve rented a slip for at least one night to visit with our box friend Jerry Purviance from Jerry’s Bait and Tackle. Then turning the boat/camper around and heading home.

We’re planning on traveling “on the hook” (anchored) as much as possible at night to enjoy the Mississippi away from the crowds and get a little evening cat fishing (or whatever bites) in along with making up our own Mark Twain stories. With the flow, we’ll be clipping on the way down with the twin 454’s idling along but paying through the nose on the way back. I’m figuring 3-4 days down and the rest working the way back. Of course the wild card is the time it takes to get through the locks and slowing down for fishing boats. I’ll be watching the MarineTraffic app to help time the lockages.

I told Jerry that I wanted to find some Silver/jumping carp and he replied with “don’t worry, they will find you!” So that will be interesting. I hope to check in here with some photos of all the big fish we catch along the way. LOL!

Hey FBRM @andyisder is 15 mph to fast to troll a deep diver at?

So from now until Thursday, I’m working on the finishing touches for a safe and reliable trip. Like replacing the Starboard heat exchanger and an oil pressure sending unit on the Port. (B.O.A.T.)

This will be my first extended trip. I always thought the end of the earth (and river) was at Alma. The trip down to La Crosse proved that wrong last year in the Skeeter. I keep telling the FW that if it goes too good, I’m just going to continue on to the Gulf. She knows I’m kidding because I haven’t packed any saltwater gear.

Now some of you might be wondering why the FW isn’t going with. Well, she just has a hard time sleeping knowing that the little anchor is holding all 17,000 pounds of boat from drifting downstream and over the next dam. I thought about going alone, but there are times a person needs to be in two places at once…and that just doesn’t make for a pleasurable trip. (Mostly through the locks)

I just have one question that keeps bothering me. Will we have enough Hamm’s for the two of us?

PS @boatshateme I have a full bottle of Angles Envy Rye hidden in the boat for medicinal purposes of course. Thank you!

Seems like the right time to head out to the river and get away from it all. Regarding the 30 pack being sufficient – is your companion bring his own beer?

    1. I’ll give the SS Tuna Barge a wide berth….unless you promise to toss me a can of Hamms on the way by.

    2. No. That’s not enough beer.

Lol! It’s the Ella J and you both convinced my I’ll need another 30. Nick likes Hamm’s and if I’m going to be tossing them to fishing friends…maybe 2 more 30 packs!

Like a lot of things it’s better to have more and not need it, than need it and not have it. Plus with Hamm’s you don’t have to worry about un-drank ones turning skunky, they come pre-skunked! rotflol

I recommend at the first sign of a sniffle you apply liberal amounts of the Angels Envy to your liver! It’ll cure what ails you toast

Sounds like a great trip. I ENVY you (see what I did there?) Always something interesting to see going down new stretches of the river.

Good Luck and have fun, you should be able to find some nice quiet coves to anchor up in, and knock a few back. Do not forget the debit card for fuel.

Thanks for the well wishes all.

I’m planning on moving along heading down there then seeing what the flow does to our speed on the way back.

Hopefully we’ll be able to make a few stops and know the time frame we’ll be arriving in. Best way to travel is without a schedule… or so I’ve heard.

You should run up a big SPAM flag in case any of the IDO`ers are on the water at the same time so we know who it is.

Too late for a flag now but I did think about the two magnetic signs that I use back when we were in depth angling. Unfortunately they don’t stick very well the fiberglass. grin

Double sided tape will fix that. Should consider a SPAM wrap.

I installed two Folbe rod holders on the aft rails. We fished for sturgeon a couple times but last year wasn’t the best for P4 sturgeon at least the times we went out.

I wanted to take it up to the St Croix but the no wake law kept me closer to the slip.

I thought you were not allowed in Iowa. You remember, that deal with the no tax booze, 2 hookers, and the live dear in that house.
