The fishing for us has been the best it’s been all year. Seems like after the weird spring things have really started to click and fall into place. Fish are where they should be this time of year.

I was up there the 13-16th. We started looking for fish around reefs and islands jigging for walleyes. Plenty of marks and saw them swimming and looking at baits with FFS, but no takers other than some smallmouth bass. I switched up and pulled leadcore and found fish, but eaters were a problem. Unders and overs were common, but very few 15″-18″ walleyes to be had. There were a lot of fish showing up on sonar while trolling. We did catch a lot of northerns too. I think the marks were a combination of SMB, walleyes, and northerns.

What kind of areas/depths were you trying the lead core? We usually try the downriggers a few times a summer but it seems like all the fish we get are small. I’m definitely not against big fish. We’ve only ever tried them in front of the cabin. Haven’t traveled to any other sections of the lake to try that tactic but maybe we should.

We were catching fish 31′-34′, as soon as we got shallower than 29′ the fish were gone. It is not an easy trolling run. Lots of rocks so constantly steering to stay on the right line.

It always blows my mind when your trolling how many fish must see that lure without biting. Maybe this weekend I’ll have to try running to a different section of the lake and try it somewhere else. We pretty much have only tried in the basin of sand bay but it’s all that same depth where you were seeing fish. Are you out in the basin or on a shoreline break when you were trolling?

Any recent reports? Working in I falls next week and tossing around the idea of pulling the boat up. Should have fairly short days to get the boat wet in the afternoons anyway.
