I’m in the market for a new head lamp, I currently have the inexpensive energizer headlamp. It’s OK but looking for better. I would like one that is brighter but can be dimmer when needed and can tilt. Any experience would help. Looking to use my Cabela’s points if possible.

Ive had really good luck with the Black Diamond headlamps. I love mine and wont buy another brand anymore. Its got all the features your looking for. Make sure you get the Black Diamond Storm . Its completely sealed and waterproof. I just looked for you. Cabelas has the Storm for $49.99 right now. Once in a while you can get lucky and REI will have them for $35.00 on Sale.

i have owned the black diamond “spot” headlamp for a few years and i love it. I have bought two of them as gifts for friends over the years as they always say they cant believe how bright mine is and they are jealous. you can get one for 40$ at cabelas. its extremely bright, can dim, has two different white light settings & a red lamp, can can lock.

Princeton Tec® APEX® APKL-BK Headlamp or Coast HL8 or HL7 makes some of the best. You want a Cree not a LED. The new Cree lamps put almost 300 lumens.

Recieved a Cabelas Alaskan Guide QUL headlamp for christmas and it is by far the best and brightest one I have owned through the years. Best part is they are $30. I am thinking of buying another for backup. It has 4 LED bulbs 3 light setting plus a flashing setting.

Black Diamond Storm. They are waterproof and you can get 160 lumens which is enough to blind a guy haha…

I ordered the Black Diamond Storm in the only available color, green. I guess it will stick out in the snow if dropped. Thanks for everybody’s help.

I bought a Northbound Train Headlamp it is the BEST headlamp I have ever had. They are very bright and have dim and high settings plus a red light and flashing mode I really like the dimming feature you can adjust from 70 lumens to 4 lumens . They also come with a LIFETIME warranty on them. They are 28.99 on Amazon.

I have a Petzl Tikka purchase at Cabelas about 10 years ago. I have used it on 4 week long elk hunting trips. My daughter used it on a 3 week trip to South America and I use it all the time.

I believe it has 5 small LED bulbs, runs off 3 AAA batteries that last along time. I liked it so much that I bought a second one for the day this one goes bad. Lasts along time on a set of batteries and very light and bright.

    Princeton Tec Remix

    or

LED Lenser H7.2 (this is the updated version of what I have)

The Princeton Tec is a great light. Two options for bulbs (flood vs. spot) and two brightness levels for each. I have two (one for the FW and one for myself). We love them. The LED Lenser is awesome because of the infinitely adjustable brightness and beam adjustments, and that SOB is BRIGHT! The Princeton Tecs seem more rugged to me, though.

I have the Petzel TacTikka (3 LED). My sister got it for my for Xmas, also about 10 years and I have put it through some abuse. I finally cracked the case on it, so I may be in the market for another one!

Shoot them an e-mail. I broke the battery case door on one of my Princeton Tecs a few years ago and just dealt with it (rigged it with a zip tie!). One day, on a whim, I emailed them, and they were glad to send me replacement parts, free of charge. Nothing lost if they say no! Of course, you can always buy a new one, anyways, and keep the repaired one as a back-up. )

You will be really happy with your choice. Your buddies wont be though when you forget to turn it off. Its blinding to somone 3 feet away. I speak from experience….

My Petzl Zipka headlamps are both ~10 years old and are bulletproof. The AAA batteries last a long time so I have never even considered rechargeable lamps.
