I think my one boy might want to fish for bass, it’s too early to tell. I’ll love him either way. I just wish he would tell me

Oh gaaawd, that’s where I draw the line. What if his mother sees him flying around Mille Lacs in a sparkly boat? I don’t think she can handle that! And what will the neighbors say? roll Can you tell if he’s faking happy here……

We are so fortunate to live where most of us do with the diversity in quality species of fish. There is always something on the hot bite. Can’t imagine only concentrating on a couple species.

I was just thinking the same thing Nick.

If a person doesn’t stick to one species, there is something biting near you all the time in MN/WI.

I think it’s funny you eye guys think the walleye is the number 1 fish but yet the bass is the most sought after sport fish around. Oh but it’s so easy to catch bass. You can throw anything at them and they will bite. Maybe in a farm pond or a lake that is over populated. Not happening on a regular lake. If they are so easy then you should enter the local tourneys and bring all the winnings home. I mean, they are easy to catch.

I just never understood the argument of one species being better than the other. I prefer bass for the fight and the techniques to catch them. Topwater, skipping docks, flipping timber. Too me that’s way better than vertical jigging sand or mud flats or trolling cranks. But that’s just my opinion. Doesn’t mean I think walleye fishing is terrible. I do it during the ice season and also hit pool 2 early spring and also do it during opener on Mille Lacs. And the best part about that is I am catching a ton of eyes using my bass gear. Who would have thought the smart eye would hit a lipless crankbait or a jerkbait. Weird -) By the way this is my first post on the forum haha.

LOL! It was a good number of years ago when I was fishing eye’s with a friend on the St Croix. We weren’t knocking the scales off of them but had a few if I recall.

Meanwhile there was a bass tourney going on and a couple of guys went by us running their electric.

One guy asked if we knew where they could catch some bass. I said when I catch bass here, it’s normally along the rocky shoreline. He replied…that’s what we have been doing but all we are catching is walleyes.

It was a good day after that. bow

And it happens both ways. I know eye guys that have had great days on smallies out on Mille Lacs and the bass guys are struggling. I’ve also had days where I crushed the eyes and talked to some guys out eye fishing and they struggled. It happens. I am looking forward to smacking the eyes on Mille Lacs this hardwater season.

Thing is the bass don’t get as big in MN as they do south of here and besides a few of the BIG waters like ML, UPRL, Leech and LOW, eyes are harder to find. I refer to bass as easy because I can tie a crank and hit any sized puddle around the state and have a better chance at catching bass over eyes. For instance it took me almost 2 years to catch an eye on a local reservoir. I knew they are there but they are rare to bring up boatside. I have caught well over 50 bass, sheep, pike while trying to target eyes. I only fish the big 3 eye factories 10 or so days a year and they have spoiled me for life. So yeah for me, bass are easy in my area.

I enjoy fishing for just about any species but it’s hard to beat casting a senko on top of a boatlift and letting it slide off into the water… jester

I think it’s because bass just seem to thrive better in most smaller lakes. You catch more bass in those lakes because 99% of the time there are more bass in that lake. Now go to Mille Lacs, Leech, and LOTW and there’s a good chance you get more eyes than bass. Mille Lacs is heading in that direction. A lot of bass guys caught way more eyes this year than smallies. But of course there aren’t any eyes in that lake ????

It’s hard to catch walleye out of water they aren’t really suited for, but easy to catch bass out of water they are suited too. You don’t say. I have found the same thing with bass in water they aren’t suited for, and walleye in water they are. Lucky is the man/women who has water that gives an abundance of whatever they are fishing to catch.

After kind of following a thread here that got locked, I just gotta say I hope you guys know I’m mostly fooling ‘ya. I have a sense of humor, I don’t know if you all have picked up on that or not yet, and I try not to take everything so serous. My montra is, life is as miserable and complicated as you allow it to be. That said, I really don’t hate bass all that much. I don’t remember the last time I targeted them, but I’ll reel in anything that tugs back. I just prefer they have teeth. Also I noticed nobody has welcomed the new member bassfshin24 so let me be the first to say hi! Hope you enjoy the site like the rest of us. wave

    Welcome… wave
And I think most of us are agreeing on something, that the particular water you happen to be fishing should more or less direct what your focus would be on. Although I may prefer to target walleye, if I just happen to be fishing weedy lake that that clearly holds bass and pike…I’ll be throwing spinner baits all day and have just as much fun.

Thanks. I use to be apart of another forum that just kind of went downhill a few years ago and have hoping something like this would pop up. Can’t believe I didn’t know about it until yesterday.

Just curious…the “other forum”, would it have been LSF? Yes or no answer is good enough. We’ll move on from there.

All I can add to this, is that we northern guys must have way way more tackle then the guys down south since we have so options and ice fishing to fish for whatever we want lol.

Walleye= if you have time on your hands or board

Northern pike= if you know what’s good
