Can’t beat the fight of a smallmouth or the explosion of a largemouth on topwater. I like the old boot tug of a walleye but bass fishing is more exciting.

I never understood the dislike of Bass by a lot of MN fisherman. A fish eager to bite some days, fun to fish for and puts up a great fight! Kinda glad though, more for me to catch.
Now the eye, good to eat, but the most boring fish to fish for. I would rather pound my head on a rock than back troll a lindy rig all day. The worst way has to be Slip-bobber fishing, I would rather cut off my pinky toe than stare at that all day!! Let em take it for a minute, oops he dropped it again.. Now when you catch them on bass lures, then they can be a little bit more fun! I love telling my snob eye friends that I caught some on a spinnerbait, they can’t believe their beloved, smart fish would do such thing!

A Whopper Plopper coming to change her mind that “Explosion, Catch and Release” is more exciting than meat hunting
November 7, 2017 at 8:14 am #1725984What’s a bass? I know of Walleye, Catfish, Panfish, Carp, and Green Carp? Sometimes the Green Carp has a brown or white variance in color and a slight difference in shape…

Dislike for Bass? Let’s talk about the lowly bottom feeding catfish in MN!
Walleye is the only fish in MN. As stated by a high profile guide and walleye advisory group member at the DNR Roundtable a few years back.. “People have to understand the walleye is the most popular fish in MN. They come from all states to fish them here. That’s why walleyes get the most funding. Get use to it.”
As I was picking up my mouth from his arrogance, I notice the bass folks getting ready to pounce on him. The did in a very tactful way.
Personally, I like the tug of all fish. If I’m quoted on that, I’ll deny it.

When people ask me what I’m fishing for, I say… fish. Have never lost that sense of wonder at the mysterious tug of life on the other end of my line, regardless of species.

The “high profile guide and advisory group member” wouldn’t happen to have the initials T N, would he?
As far as what I fish for, sure walleye would be the most likely since I predominately fish Mille Lacs, although with the walleye closure this past season I did target northern pike and muskie.
And depending on other waters I may fish will depend on what’s there. I won’t spend all day looking for that one walleye if it’s a great bass/panfish lake.
To quote BK…“Personally, I like the tug of all fish. If I’m quoted on that, I’ll deny it.” Although he denies it…November 7, 2017 at 11:14 am #1726037I always thought bass….er well, I’m going to sit this one out.
Tastes like flathead!

My source is the 250 boats at the P4 dam every March.November 7, 2017 at 2:50 pm #1726109Chicken and the egg = What came first MN Walleye Fishermen superiority or MN Bass fishing inferiority complex? lol

I grew up bass fishing now I’m pretty much walleye or panfish.
Interesting though I absolutely love bobber fishing regardless of the species. Ido however find trolling mostly boring because it’s kind of like dragging in a wet rag

1) Close eyes and grab anything out of tackle box.
2) Tie on to rod.
3) Hop onto inner tube.
4) Paddle to first dock with 1 weed underneath.
5) Cast lure under dock.
6) Real in Bass.
7) Say Git-r-done, take sip off Bud light, repeat.Iowaboy1Posts: 3829November 7, 2017 at 5:35 pm #1726145Bass Fishing –

[/quote]If Bass are the only thing I can fish for, I’d rather sit at home and play the Rapala game on the Wii. They are literally the last fish I would fish for. Don’t know why, I grew up on a small farm lake that was loaded with bass, and some really nice ones too. I sopose I caught my fill of them by the time I was 16?????
I think my one boy might want to fish for bass, it’s too early to tell. I’ll love him either way. I just wish he would tell me……
November 7, 2017 at 7:21 pm #17261851. Nothing better than an aggressive walleye smack the rod out of your hand while vertical jigging.
2. Bass top water is a huge rush but I miss more than I connect so I cant compare.
3. Trolling walleyes is like dragging a wet sock if you get hit…..pretty lame but a good way to cover ground in the dog days of summer.
4. Point being is that anyone can catch bass because its easy. Nothing comes easy walleye fishing unless you are on a 100 fish day bite like UPRL.
November 7, 2017 at 8:08 pm #1726209Maybe my view of bobber fishing for eyes is skewed. Its mostly been on lakes around here when the bite is so slow and that is the only way to get them. Just watching everyone stare at their bobbers would be enough to make me keep trolling at least. I just couldn’t get my self to do it. Now that Bass(c&r), opens the same as eyes I don’t have to bother with the eyes anymore.
Now Bobber fishing for panfish or Pike, that can be fun! But as long as you enjoy fishing, that is all that counts.
