HDS 8 – structure scan

Hello,
New to the site, bought a different boat, has the HDS 8 and structure scan, the structure scan does not work, says no source, still working thru that, appears to have power going to it, but going to hook up directly to battery next, see no lights at all on the module, friend had a spare module or black box, same with that. I agreed to let my son do an update on the hds, now there is no longer a structure scan option on the graph, any ideas on how we can get that back? back to the no source, I am assume other issue, can the ethernet cable cause a no source? can buy one on a gamble if so, tonight I will hook up separately to see if I can at least get it powered up, not a show stopper, but if I can utilize the structure scan I would like to. Thanks For any input on this issue!
