Bought a HDS 7 Gen 2 touch a week ago and mounted it on the front of my 1996 Gambler Bass Boat Minn Kota trolling motor.
Yesterday I got a HDS 7 Gen 3 touch and planning to mount it on the console today.

    Question is.
Did you use the transducer 83/200 and mount in on the back of the boat ?
Or did you sand it down and shoot it threw the hull of the boat.

Will it read running down the lake in either place.

Or does it give you problems in either place.

    Thanks.

I just used the 83/200 transducer mounted to the back of the boat. Not sure how well it would work to “sand it down” and try to use it thru hull. That makes me a bit nervous but if you have an extra transducer go for it and let us know results. -)

I broke one transducer in 10 years on the back of my boat on the river. A chunk of ice took it out.

More often then not, you get a better reading off the back then thru the hull.

Ice if you fish on the ends of the “season” and debris can and do takeout rear mounted ducers.
