I recently converted my main unit to a Huminbird 917C. While I am still getting used to the views and menus, one thing I am perplexed with is the GPS screen is not staying current while moving at 20-40 mph. It is always loading with a blank screen and my boat icon, no maps. Can someonbe please tell me what adjustment I need to make to have the screen current when moving? thank you Dave

Have you cleared your tracks recently? Tracks take up memory and if it is full or near full it can slow the unit way down.

At low speed, no problem. If I get under way at 20-30 mph, the top of the screen is blank, then the whole screen goes blank with the exception of the boat icon and trail.
This is a new unit. Hardly any trails in the memory.
    still need help

Did you get a chance to take a look at the zoom level you’re running when this happens?

I will try to zoom out further, but the unit really was not zoomed in that close. I have never had this kind of issue with my lowrance units. I notice the boat icon is in the center of the screen, yet the map detail always seems to be loading. How far out do I need to zoom out? I would like to see the map detail out 1/2 mile in front of me. Is that zoomed in too far? I upgraded to a 917C Huminbird because I like many of the features huminbird has. Is there an adjustment I can make? thanks Dave

Also make sure you’re updated to 4.95 software.

What map are you running? Lakemaster has a slow refresh rate vs Navionics

I am running the new Lakemaster chip. Why is there such a difference between Lowrance and Huminbird on the maps loading/refreshing while running across a lake? I have both unit still set up so I can compare. thanks Dave

Not sure why Lakemaster is so slow, I got a one of each Lakemaster and Navionics and the Navinocs keeps up and at 60mph that is nice to keep up

One other thing you may want to try is power the unit on and press the menu button twice and go over to the Chart Menu. Then go down to where it says Chart Select and select what card slot the Lake Master card is in. See if this helps the preformance of the chart.

I ran into “slow-to -no” map redraw on my 998 when I tried to use the “course up” map orientation. The latest upgrade from HB cleared it up totally. Was out tonight on Minnetonka and redraw time was very close (insignificantly different)to my old 112 Lowrance w/ LM chip. Good luck…
