Software version 4.960 was added to the Humminbird website today for the 777c2, 797c2, 797c2i, 778, 786ci, 788c, 788ci, 798c and 798ci.

Remember to restore defaults prior to any updates, also run the restore defaults after. This is supposed to clear up our shallow water issues. Haven’t upgraded yet.
Thanks for this post Nick. I updated my 798 and it seems to have fixed the problem with reading in shallow water!
Updated mine 10 days ago, was up on Rainy for the past week, both units worked flawlessly. My 788 has not been well since new in shallow water, reads perfect down to less than a foot now. Nice job HB!
Thanks for the note. I have been having troubles when in shallow water with my 898 – dead idle, sitting, trolling speed, etc it would jump from from <10ft to several thousand ft. Perhaps the software update will fix things. I’ll load it on tonight and verify tomorrow evening!
Do you know if they are releasing an update for a 997si? Mine does the same thing you’re describing. I currently have the max depth at 15ft which helps, but is not optimal.

Did you get 4.95? It came out very soon after 4.75.
The update is out there for the 997si, that is the unit I run and I updated to the newest.
