Lowrance does have something over Humminbird

Unfortunately Humminbird does not support Radar software. Lowrance may get a leg up on Humminbird if they get their Structure Scan up and running.

Oh well, it’s all toys anyway.

An interesting side note. Fishing out in San Diego, Peter (my guide) runs Raymarine electronics as well as most others out there. Some are running Lowrance. However in talking with Peter, it seemed the perception is that Humminbird is a lower quality electronic compared to Lowrance and Raymarine.

I believe that the lowrance units are superior…as long as everything works and you don’t have to deal with customer service.

I am rolling the dice and picking up an HDS system this week or next.

    Wish me luck…

Good Luck Perch. The images look nice, it’ll be interesting to see the real life applications. Keep us posted.

I think Lowrance is still way ahead on the networking end also!

    Good Luck…. Go Lowrance!

Until Humminbird purchased I forget who, it was the people that made the liquid paper graphs and came out with side imaging they were the laughing stock of fishing electronics. They’ve made quite an improvementand I believe they have surpassed Lowrance in quite a few ways. I own both and score it a draw. I will say that they both could use some significant improvements many of which should be easy to do.

    Good luck Perch.

I am still in the decision making stage and not sure which way I will go when I upgrade. I have always used Lowrance with the exception of one HB unit that I broke the transducer on.

I concur HB was allways considered a cheap no nonsense depth finder. Very low pixel counts and most structure looked like blobs with square corners.

I give HB a big thumbs up for there easy menus 10 minutes and anyone can operate a Hbird like a pro.

I beleive that since Hbird is owned by Johnson who makes Minnkota that one day there will be an interlink from trolling motor to depth finder. That would be great any track on the Hbird could be run thru the trolling motor. OR maybe even a steering system to run the kicker from tracks or grids from the Hbird.

GOOD LUCK! YOU MAY NEED IT…. IF YOUR IN THE METRO AREA I RECOMMEND BUYING FROM THORNE BROTHERS! IF YOU EVER HAVE A PROBLEM THEY WILL HANDLE IT RATHER THE SITTING ON THE PHONE FOR HOURS WITH LOWRANCE! IF THEY DO HAVE TO MAKE A CALL THEY HAVE A FEW PERSONAL NUMBERS TO CALL TO GET THINGS SOLVED. WELL WROTH THE TRIP!!!
