Power problem: My power is run thru a Main Power switch on my Lund. Every time I re-start the outboard (on the same battery) my Humminbird goes blank and no buttons are operational. I have to flip the power switch off then on before it will power up.

    Memory Card Slot:
Do I need a blank SD Card?
    If so, why?

    Thanks.

your outboard is pulling alot of juice to start it. I have had mine read low voltage before when starting my big motor. try switching to your other battery on your kicker if you have one.

I have mine hooked up to the trolling motor battery. I was told not to hook it up to the starter battery. Hope this helps

The 788ci will shut off if the voltage goes below a certain point. When you start the boat it is pulling a lot of juice and in turn lowers the available voltage to the unit. It is not a problem with the unit. There was a good post last week that talked about a few ways to resolve the issue. I’ll try to find it for you and post the link.

Here’s the link to last weeks post. Sounds like a similar problem.

You do not “need” an SD card.

I use mine for recording SI images on my 997 and exporting or importing nav (waypoint) data so that I may work with it on my computer / HumminbirdPC.

How many CCA is your starting battery? Probably easiest to get a battery with more cranking amps.
