SI not happening on one side

As you can see in the pics, my transducer is located on the port side. I am not getting good readings on the starboard SI at all. When I trim the big motor up high, nothing changes.

Is the livewell screen and tube to blame? Would stacking another mounting board eliminate this problem? Any other thoughts greatly appreciated!

I’d recommend moving it to the starboard side and more midline with the boat (towards the bottom of the boat). You might need a 2nd transducer for high speed–I ended up not needing a 2nd even though my SIducer is much closer to my motor than should be for highspeed reading. IMHO, the screen is not in the way, just your ducer is much too high up the port side of the boat to give a good reading bilaterally. Might want to flatten the ducer a little as well.

    Good luck!

Thanks for the thoughts! I should have been more specific earlier…my bad…I can’t move it to the starboard side because I use trolling motors over there…electric and gas.

I see what you’re saying about moving it down lower in the “V” of the boat. Maybe get another mounting board–cut it and mount it next to the other one; thus, dropping the transducer lower and right?

Yup, more midline on the boat. I did see one boat where he had two SI ducers on each corner of his boat-that would be another idea as well, but the cost of another transducer.

What could be happening by mounting on the port side is your getting prop turbulence. They really recomend mounting on the starboard side for this reason. Hopefully Jason or someone will chime in.

Are the trolling motors clear as well? Just take the screen off and see if makes a difference.

I doubled the mounting boards…made a ton of difference. I’m still getting a little turbulence from somewhere…maybe motor…maybe hull. No major worries.

SI = more fish for me over the past month — absolutely NO doubt. Can’t catch what’s not there…now I know if they are there or not. Thanks for all your help!

I think that metal mesh screen was the issue. Bumping it out helps the sonar to clear the mesh screen. I mashed mine down, and it helped with my SI images… But even though it isn’t blocking very much of the transducer anymore (it still blocks a very little of the total length), I still get a few lines occassionally on the left side, especially with speed changes or turns. I assume if I added a bump out, it would probably clear up the interference issue. My issues aren’t that bad to re-do the mount though – pretty minor interference most of the time.

Like Ruger has mentioned before, metal tends to do weird things with those signals…
