Problem with my new 917c

I have an new 917c that I got this winter (convinced my wife it would be a great Xmas gift). I’ve only been out with it twice. Last night, two separate times the screen froze up on me and none of the buttons would work – power, menu, view, nothing.

I’m wondering if anyone can give me some feedback on what’s going on. And suggestions on what to do about it.

    Thanks so much.

In the meantime call Humminbird. They have great Tech’s.

Are you running the unit with the “course up” option?

I believe both times I was only using the sonar view. No GPS. I think that’s what you’re referring to.

I just got off the phone with Humminbird support. His suggestion was connecting the power cord directly to the starting battery. I’ll give that a try.

Thanks for your help and if anyone else has had this problem I would be interested in hearing from you.

    Hi,
It sounds to me like your unit might have a low voltage problem. Sometimes the power connector pins have become loose or you may have a voltage drop somewhere in the cabling to the battery. Check the voltage that the unit is seeing by going to the “System Status” screens (hit the Menu button when prompted during power up). Select the screen that shows the units Software revision (up/down View and Exit buttons) and look at the units’ voltage value. If it is low, you have an issue with voltage going into the unit. Note: You have to power down the unit to get out of “System Status” mode.

    Take care,
    Roger

Hi – just want to complete this thread. Thanks for the suggestions. I direct wired the unit and have had no problems with the screen and power freezing. I also took some advice from another thread regarding a lot of water being kicked up at the transducer. Wrapped some tape around it and all is good. You guys rock! Thanks.
