Transducer Location

    Good afternoon,

On a Crestliner Fishhawk 1750 Alum., Where should the transducer for a H 998c be placed? How far from the center line? or How far from the right outside edge?

Joe, here’s my High Speed transducer and SI/DI transducer. This is a new location and I can’t tell you how much I’ll like it. You can see the holes for the previous location of the SI/DI transducer. I was getting some left sided interference (shadowing). The benefit of having the high speed is that you aren’t limited to one location for your SI/DI transducer.

Thank you for the picture. It looks as if the Side Imaging Transducer is close to the center keel and the high speed is 12 inches away towards side. You must use a Y connector? I like that board that you attach to your boat.

Oh that board is a must. I saw a board once that had over 16 drill holes in it. The guy must have been moving that transducer all over trying to get it right.

Without a transom board that wouldn’t be possible. It pretty much becomes a 1 shot deal. I can’t imagine punching holes in your boat like that.

Correct on the transducer location. I wanted the high speed ABOVE the SI/DI and away from the motor as that’s where interference will come from. Regarding the SI/DI, that needs to be where imaging is the best. It won’t be operating at high speed, so it can be closer to the lower unit.

Yeah, I ordered a Y connector. I did this for optimal transducer function. However it will be a nice safety feature as well. If I hit an object/debris (happens a lot on the river) I am only risking the cheaper high speed transducer and not the expensive SI/DI transducer.

Nice! That’s what I needed too. I am mounting mine tonight and I do have a mounting board.

Is this correct: I should mount the SI/DI transducer fairly low to centerline???

Do I use a level to make sure it is oriented correctly?

To avoid hitting debris…I assume it should be just level with the bottom of the boat?

Thanks for any ideas you have

Scott, are you doing like I did with 2 transducers?

No, I have just the bigger transducer that came with the unit — I assume called the SI/DI ducer.

Using a level is good idea, but you want to make sure your boat is level first. If your boat is not level on the trailer, simply match the ‘ducer level bubble position to the boat level bubble postion… Make sense??

Ummmmmm…is there anybody in the Red Wing area that can give a hand with mounting the transducer? I’ll drive to your house tonight…then I can get on the water!

Here’s my set up–Should I mount the HB transducer on the lower right side of the mounting board? Please notice the molded underside of the boat…does that “fin” make it a bad place to mount the transducer?

I could mount it up and to the left of the speed wheel…no problem there with the “fins”

    Opinions?

I would not mount the SI ducer in the “open” position due to the hull strake that runs in front of that position. Too much turbulence = poor images.

If it were me, I’d move that paddlewheel out of the way (perhaps outboard of the old skimmer transducer, or just remove it altogether) and mount the SI ducer in its position. You want the SI ducer to be lower than all the other ducers and accessories so that they do not block the downward/outward-directed SI sonar beams.

Perfect! Thanks Jason. I will get rid of the wheel.

If you notice in the pic, I still have an older puck from a Lowrance x75 — I always think “Have a backup” — can I just leave that older puck or would it be a problem with the HB?

Nothing wrong with keeping it, as long as it’s above the SI transducer.

Plan on having to tweak your SI transducer location a time or two to get you the best possible image, particularly with that big strake in the neighborhood.
