Just purchased H 998c from Sheels. What is the best way to install the two transducers of the Humminbird 998c? And the best location for the GPS puck? Any other accessarries to add to it?

Welcome to the family! Let’s get this thing rigged so you can enjoy it on the water.

First of all, recognize that you do NOT need two transducers. The standard HDSI transducer can do all of your sonar work for you (SI, DI, 2D). Some anglers end up installing two (one for hi-speed 2D, and the other for low-speed SI/DI), but that’s not a necessity. If you want to install a second hi-speed transducer, we’ll need to know if you’re rigging in a glass or a tin boat.

Best GPS puck location: a horizontal surface with an unobstructed view of the sky. Keep it out of the way so it doesn’t get stepped on, or scuffed up by your boat cover.

Other accessories? I run an XM weather receiver on my 1197, and have my console and bow stations linked together by an Interlink system.

Have fun, and let us know if we can help!

    Welcome Joe!

What type of boat are you installing it on?

I would add that if possible put your gps puck directly above your transducer. It will minimize the waypoint error.
It puts the waypoint on top of what you are seeing! not 10 to 20 feet away,if you mount the puck on the console or bow!
    Have Fun!

Thanks for the quick reply. I have Crestliner ( AL ) Fish Hawk 1750 single console with 115 Opti Mercury.
In reading, it seemed that using two transducers made for better reception than just the one. The Hummingbird site listed a transducer XNT 9 20 T for 67.99 and y cable AS SIDB y for 23.99. If it would improve reception, maybe I should?

I would put the GPS puck on the right had side rear corner of the boat. The motor cowling may obstruct. Do some people place the puck higher in the air on a ram mount?

I like the idea of weather module. Advantages?

I ran that boat for almost 4 years. Terrific multi-species rig.

I had my GPS pucks in the exact spot you’re thinking of: starboard rear quarter, on the gunwale. I ended up dropping mine down off the gunwale after my cover scuffed up a couple of pucks. You can put it higher if you want, but reception won’t be an issue in that area.

Advantage of the XM weather module? Not having to wonder if that distant rumbling is from a storm that is going to pass 20 miles to your north, or pass directly overhead. I picked up mine for peace of mind when fishing big water far from port, where time can make a big difference in safety.
